Thank YOU for the get-well wishes, everyone!
I was basically useless to society the last 7 days. The cold/flu/whatever was absolutely bruuuutal!
I'm finally feeling better and got my first little workout in today. A little bit of weights and literally about a mile on the treadmill and some walking.
Question! How quickly do you lose strength/stamina?
I'm interested to see how I run when I can get back to it this week - it's been an unplanned, extended break.
In the past, I've noticed that after about 2-3 weeks off from doing weights, I lost quite a bit of strength and have to decrease almost 5 pounds from what I was lifting before.
_________________________________________________
In short, what I did for the week:
*I slept a lot
*I ate a lot
*I stalked a lot of your blogs
*I watched a lot of movies again (Skyfall, Dark Knight Rises, Die hard 4, Mission Impossible 4) - can you tell they were my brother's picks??
Would you rather kick-back and relax with movies / tv- shows / music?
I'm really not a movie or tv person..I'm all about muuuusic.
*I also caught up with my friends - I found out why Justin Bieber had the worst 19th birthday
heard Rihanna (looking gorgeous) talking about getting back together with Chris Brown
Checked out Kim's maternity wear
(I desperately want to raid sister Kourtney's closet)
And sent congratulations to Jamie Lynn Spears (Britney's little sis) on that gorgeous engagement ring

You're still recovering so getting back into the swing of things may take a few days. I'm pretty sure by the end of the week you'd be back to normal.
ReplyDeleteRiRi is super gorge. Sigh. I love her. I really do. As for raiding Kourtney K's closet, I'm with you! Let's plan that ish!!!
Glad you're feeling better.
xx
I have no idea about strength but in terms of running, come back slowly and within a week of gradual speed increase, you should be just about back to normal after only a week gone. If it were 2 weeks out, the general rule is that it should take about 2 weeks to push yourself to where you were, pre-break. And so on...I am sure you will be fine and thanks for updating me on celebrity gossip (I barely know who these people are!).
ReplyDeleteLet yourself get back to 100% before killing it like you normally do! You don't want to beat your body down before it is recovered.
ReplyDeleteAfter a week off you won't lose the fitness for running in fact once you feel totally better I bet you have some amazing runs in refreshed legs!
For weights I took off the intensity while marathon training but after a couple sessions was back to my normal weights - although was more challenging.
I'm the same, I stopped doing weights last fall for a couple months (i got bored), and when I started back up I went from 10lbs to 8lbs. But quickly was able to go to 12lbs :), I don't like taking breaks from running, because for some reason, when I do, I lose everything lol it makes it twice as hard to get back into it. OMG, Kim's Maternity wear...it's a little strange for me, Kourtney looked adorable when she was pregnant. Good to see your feeling better :)
ReplyDeleteYa i don't really care for them, but usually kim dresses quite nicely, not lately though! Lol!
DeleteI have a feeling i might be struggling a bit to get back into cardio shape. Hmm :(
So glad to see you are feeling much better! Sometimes unexpected "breaks" are good for us. We come back stronger!!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt usually takes 2 weeks to lose fitness... so I think that you are good - It might feel hard to get back in the groove if your body is not ready yet - but if it is you will hopefully feel refreshed! I still need to see Skyfall!
ReplyDeleteGlad your feeling better!
ReplyDeleteYay! Glad you are on the mend and able to workout again. Good news. It usually takes me a month before I notice losing lots of fitness. However, I'm not a big weight lifter so I am only looking at it from my experience as a runner.
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you took time off to get better! Just ease back into your work outs before you know it you will be running 15 miles on the treadmill! :) {And I'll be reading your posts in awe!}
I love how you posted about the celebrities. Reading celebrity gossip is my dirty little secret! :)
Glad you're feeling better! Taking time off is key! Thanks about the celeb goss -- I don't really know anything happening anywhere so I learned a little haha :)
ReplyDeleteeven though you were sick, your mileage is amazing!
ReplyDeleteHoly miles! .... And. I just bought those pink socks! Had my first run in them today!
ReplyDeleteFirst pro compression pair?? I've noticed a ridiculously amazinf recovery time since wearing them. ENJOY!!
DeleteWhen I was sick it took me about 2 weeks to get back to where I was. The first couple of days back were rough, but it'll get better, so keep at it :)
ReplyDeleteWell, who needs to be useful to society every day anyway? Glad you're feeling better! And thanks for the Bieber update-I always like to read about him acting like a brat ;).
ReplyDeleteYour monthly mileage is huge! It sounds as though you deserved a break - glad you're feeling better.
ReplyDeletenice post!
ReplyDeleteOh glad you're feeling better :) Now go get back to that treadmill :P Oh wow I haven't heard anything about Jamie Lynn since like Zoey 101 back in like grade 9! Glad to know she's getting engaged ^^
ReplyDeleteAww man! Are you sick while your bro is visiting too?! I just remembered you said he was coming. Happy to hear you made it back out to the gym. And thanks for catching me up on celebrity news! :)
ReplyDeleteYES, i have been floored with sickness the WHOLE week he's been back. Such terrible timing. :( it's been fun still though...making him fetch everything for me. Lol!
Deleteglad you are starting to feel better and look how much info you got to catch up on.. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better :) I feel like I lose strength super quickly too, but I can usually pick up where I left off in terms of cardio.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're feeling better! I feel like I lose progress, whether it be strength or with something like running, very quickly. But when you're sick, there's no choice but to take some time off and rest!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you have been sick, it is very frustrating when your strength/fitnesss gets messed with in that way - glad you are on the mend again:) I am a movie kind of person if I have to choose...
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better! You did exactly what you're supposed to do when you're sick. Having your brother to hang out and watch movies with helps too :) Sometimes we take running too seriously and think the world will end if we miss a day or two. Not everyone is smart enough to listen to their body. Once you're at 100%, you'll bounce back in no time!
ReplyDeletehopefully you'll be back to yourself in no time. I did not know almost all of those media things! I need to read a magazine every once in a while haha
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better! I've noticed that if I take a week or so off from running, getting back into the swing of it isn't bad; however, I took almost a solid month off running after the marathon and getting back into it has been rough. I'm running a 15K in three weeks and the most I've run is five miles. I guess that just means crunch time!!
ReplyDeleteOhh the Biebs gets me errry time. Jaden has her own issues too hahaha
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you are feeling better! I agree, the flu suuucks!! It usually takes me about a week to bounce back. Take it easy and don't do too much too quickly! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're finally feeling better! Must've been a doozy.
ReplyDeleteI think about a week off shouldn't impact you *too* much, especially as far as distance/endurance goes (maybe a slight decrease in faster paced work, but it's not like you're running 400 repeats three times a week anyway). Biggest thing is that you probably still aren't at 100% physically, so just take it easy and use the next week to ease back in. As long as that goes well, and you're feeling good, I'd say you're good to go back to "normal" trianing for the following week. [Just my 2 cents...I'm not a medical doctor!]
Glad to hear you are feeling better!!! I personally like to pass time by tv and movies when I'm trying to relax.
ReplyDeleteso glad you're feeling better, TR! feels so good to MOVE again after you've been sick, eh?!
ReplyDeletei find i lose strength pretty quickly, too. and the first few cardio w/o's feel tough, but the cardio comes back pretty quickly!
at least you had some fun diversions to fill your downtime!
oh goodness, YES! it feels great to move, breathe properly and not be so incredibly weak after such a bad episode!
DeleteYou'll pick up your strength and stamina really quickly once you're feeling better. You're body is probably still recovering after being so sick!! Glad your better! :) hope you get to have some fun with your brother!
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon! Girl your yearly milage total is awesome! Keep it up :-)
ReplyDeleteYour mileage is rockin'! Wow! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI notice my strength and stamina wanes in about three weeks. I know my limits---especially having been injured this winter. (Torn inner meniscus.)

So glad you are starting to feel better. Take it slow as you are starting to get back into it, but I bet it won't take too long to pick your running back up. Bummer that you were sick while your brother was visiting, but at least you had some time to hang out together and catch up/watch movies.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting better! It usually takes about 2-3 weeks of no exercise till I start to see a decline in my fitness levels. On the bright side, I seem to bounce back after a few sessions back so you'll be killing your runs in no time! I can't believe Rihanna would even think to get back with Chris Brown- shocking to say the least!
ReplyDeleteget well soon! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteFashion for Beauty
I actually never watch TV because I dont have one in my room but I love relaxing with a tv series running on my computer :) if i want it to be calmer, i opt for music to relax bc tv series can get quite tensed sometimes.
ReplyDeleteanyways, thank you for ur comment on my blog, and hope to see you again :)
get well soooon!
Glad you are feeling better! I hate being sick more than most things in this world, and coming back to exercise can be very humbling!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you're back on your feet. You're in such great shape that it would take some serious time for you to lose your stamina.
ReplyDeleteLove the celebrity links - always up on the gossip too:)
Ummm isn't Jamie Lynn super young??
ReplyDeleteI think she's 21..and if you remember(because well, I stalk this family), she had her baby at 16. I know too much. Lol!
DeleteI admire those who can stay committed to exercise because it is a HARD work that requires a high degree of motivation. Good for you. I probably pass out after one mile, shame on me.
ReplyDeleteI wish i looked stylish like the Kadasians when i was preggo.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Someone once told me that you lose 3 weeks of training for every week off.
ReplyDeleteSabbaticals only make us stronger. Hang in there! Much love, Z!
ReplyDeleteLove the Kardashians!!! :) For me, taking time off of running (planned or unplanned) has different impacts on me. Sometimes it is harder for me when coming back from being sick because I feel weaker. Other times, I feel refreshed after taking a break and feel strong when I come back (this is usually when I've planned a break, though).
ReplyDeleteSo glad your feel better and WELL DONE on your amazing fitness routine! That's incredible :) x
ReplyDeleteGlad you're up and at it and feeling better! If I'm off a week, I usually come back refreshed and better than ever, but longer than that? Yeah, definitely have to dial it back a few notches in the gym.
ReplyDeleteYou lose strength and flexibility fast! I hate it :( makes me so discouraged...I'm super weak now. BOOO. I'm so glad youre feeling better. I'm also a little happy you had internet creeping time because now I know what's going on in hollywood :) ...ps: I think we have the same compression socks! PINK!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're feeling better!! It blows my mind how quickly you can lose strength after only a little time off :( It seems to take forever to build it up and no time to lose it.
ReplyDeleteAlso - we have the same hot pink compression socks! I'm very excited about this. Though, I think you have them in every color, so it's really not a huge coincidence haha
Doesn't it feel good to start working out again after being sick? Hope it just gets better and better for you.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Glad you're back to business, being sick is the worst. I decrease my weight if I have to take like a week off but that usually only happens like once a year. I actually a love interest for ALL three!!! I go to the movies frequently, music all night at work, and TV shows while I do 50 other things at a time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer to go from the runner's high of the 15 miles to getting sick! I'm sure it feels like starting over, but you'll probably surprise yourself with how quickly you bounce back once you get a few weeks past the sickness.
ReplyDeleteAwesome mileage so far! First of all, what is Biebs doing hanging out with a 14 year old? I mean, even for boys, the maturity level has to be vastly different! Oh well, sorry your b-day sucked, Biebs.
