Thank you guys SOOO much for the well-wishes!
It didn't even occur to me that other cardio options would be SWIMMING - like a lot of you mentioned! Or the hand-bike machine. I've seen those at my gym but never used them before!
I've stayed off my foot since I hurt it. Thankfully, I've definitely felt an improvement and it's feeling better after almost 2 days now. I've been lightly massaging it and found that keeping it active a little bit, instead of leaving it to stiffen up, is helping a lot.
The bruiiise. You can thank me later for cutting off my toes in the picture - they are not pretty. Blaming it on running.

I've done no workouts for almost 10 days now so I decided to do some upper body strength training in my basement.
What's the best part of home work-outs for you??
My ultimate favourite is that I can roll out of bed, still with the sleepy-face look, look a mess, and simply not care!!
The fact that you don't have to travel and GET to the gym is always a great bonus, too.
I used our weighted hula-hoop to sweat it out a bit!! Anyone have one of these?

I'm not sure how much it actually weighs..but it does make a difference. It's been a super long time since I've hula-hooped. Keeping it up was a challenge at first. A great workout in front of the TV!
It feels GOOD to sweat, to move and be active a little!
Now, I'm off to the airport..because my brother is heading back to the U.K. Time just FLEW by these past 10 days or so.. Nooooooo
Are you a fan of airports / flying?? Do you travel much??
It used to be sooo exciting for me to get on a plane as a child.
Since studying + working in the U.K and being there for 5 years, I flew back and forth from home about 4 times a year. Airports and flying got old. FAST. I simply do not like the atmosphere, the waiting, the delays, customs line-ups, the jet-lag, the little seats, the blocked ears when you're landing(ever have a cold while flying?? that is some serious discomfort/pain), the long flights. Bahh!! (that's a lot of negativity in one sentence. LOL)
HAPPY TUESDAY!!

I have never used a weighted hoola hook but it looks fun. You will be back running in no time!
ReplyDeleteThat is a giant bruise! Ouch! I rolled my ankle last time this year and it ripped part of my Achilles Tendon. I stepped on the edge of the sidewalk. It was such a stupid minor step, but caused a lot of pain. Anyway, I had to take about four weeks off of running for it to heal! Hope you are feeling better. I have started to swim a lot in the last year as a substitute for running cardio and to rehab my running ailments! Anyway, I might try a hula hoop class, there is one in my neighborhood! Hope your foot is back to normal real soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteI wish my gym had a swimming pool - I've love to swim!! But, I'd be learning from scratch since it's been yeaaars though.
Deleteoh gosh, sorry to hear about your injury last year. It is FRUSTRATING when something minor and and slightly careless can cause so much pain!
Luckily there is a pool near to where i live. Yes, sometimes the big injuries come when we are doing something minor and unrelated to running. Like you said, it is frustrating!
DeleteHope you're feeling better soon!

I tend to fly a lot with my parents and sister in Florida (and in different parts) so between that and work and such I guess I wind up flying a decent amount. But those trips are within the US and not too long.
ReplyDeleteYour foot looks super painful. All I can say is OUCH to that bruise. I hope that you have a super speedy recovery.
I have a hula hoop...but I still have not mastered it. One day I will conquer it. I swear. I am envious of those who can hula hoop for hours on end! I'm just trying to get a full minute.
Ouch -- your foot looks painful! Hope it continues to feel better. Be careful and take it easy.
ReplyDeleteI feel like at home workouts take so much less time because you don't have to travel to them, like you mentioned. Especially after a long day at work! As long as you don't let yourself get distracted by other things around the house, they are great.
My sister in law loves hula hooping. I've only done it a few times when i worked at daycamp. It was fun, but I just don't think I got a lot out of it. Maybe if I tried to take it a little more seriously.
ReplyDeleteI love your dark chambray shirt! Mine is too light, I think I might need a new one.
Ooo, that is one killer bruise! Happy to hear it's feeling better!
ReplyDeleteAww man, I can't believe your bro is already going home!
I am so over airports too. Mostly the hustle of the other people. It seems to bring out the worst in people!
Youch! That looks so painful! Hope you heal up soon!
ReplyDeleteOh my :S Hope your foot gets better! Swimming is amazing! It's a cardio and strength workout put into one. I used to love hula hooping but my hoop was very light weight so it wasn't too big of a workout. Skipping is fun too especially when you make into a game!
ReplyDeleteOuch!!! Get healed soon!!!
ReplyDeleteI like airports and travelling :-) Even with delays!
Happy healing (meant to say that sooner). I literally feel your pain (though mine's in the knee...bleugh). And yes, airports suck. I remember when it used to be fun to travel. No longer.
ReplyDeleteI hope your foot feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteAlso, is that seriously your "first thing in the morning" face? Girl, PLEASE. You look amazing!
I hope your foot heals up soon :) It looks sooo painful!
ReplyDeleteXO, Kelsey
Yikes! Hope your foot heals quickly!
ReplyDeleteI hope your foot heals quickly!!!
ReplyDeleteSooo sorry to hear about your foot!! UGH. That would frustrate me so badly. I admire your ability to stay off it and be positive about it, at least that's the way it seems!! I haven't hula hooped in years! HAHA!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't mention if you went to a doctor. Did you get xrays to make sure you didn't fracture anything, or avulse some ligaments? Ice and elevate! Feel better real soon!
ReplyDeletethanks so much for your wishes! It is MUCH better now..although I'm staying off running for a few more days just until it feels completely normal.
Deletei didn't go to the doctor, but my dad (who's a doctor) saw it happen and checked me out a bit and was confident it wasn't fractured. It it didn't get better though, definitely would have gotten xrays!
Time does fly, seems like your brother just got there! I about fainted about the toes...too funny! I agree about no traveling issues for at home workouts! I just love the gym though. I'll reserve at home workouts for new born baby days..if that ever gets here!
ReplyDeleteI did an at home workout this morning - I LOVE not caring about what I am wearing... I totally just wore my sports bra. WOWZA on that bruise! Holy cow! Get better!
ReplyDeleteaw hope your foot feels better soon! I HATE airports. I'm totally fine with flying, but for some reason I get major anxiety in airports
ReplyDeleteI loved flying the first (and only time) i've done it! It was really stress free and the seats were amazing to sleep in :) I went to Florida with my volleyball team, it was a great bonding experience!
ReplyDeleteGlad things are feeling better, and you got to sneak a workout in. That always helps - at least the mental well-being! :)
ReplyDeleteAirports...I love how they facilitate my travel just about anywhere in the world in under 24 hours. That is amazing. Of course, there are plenty of less-than-glorious parts of that, but I'm pretty willing to accept those in the trade-off. We travel quite a bit: husband & I lived on opposite sides of the US for 6 years, plus our families are on 2 different continents, plus we love to travel, so...we've got quite a few frequent flier miles under our belts. Planning our next trip back to the US - excited enough that I doubt I'll mind the airport!
That is one sore looking bruise, ouch!!! Hopefully it looks worse than it is.
ReplyDeleteI hate travelling but love getting to the destination...not fun flying with 2 kids who need entertainment!
Omg u poor thing! I can't believe you rolled your foot so bad!!! Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteHoly ouch! I haven't read the comments on your last post, but did anyone suggest rowing? It might not work because there is some pressure on the foot/ankle, but maybe at a pretty easy intensity it would work?
ReplyDeleteI don't mind airports. I like to people watch, wander around, and then settle down with a book somewhere. My Mom always says that the airport is one of the few places she can read uninterrupted, with nothing else that she 'should' be doing hanging over her head!
No one did mention rowing - that is FANTASTIC. I haven't done it in YEARS since I just always seem to chose running. thanks!
DeleteMy body always feels weird after I fly, like I feel greasy and bloated and dirty. Your foot looks insane!! I hope it heals quickly!!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a weighted hula hoop! How cool! And, if that pic is your sleepy-faced-mess look, you are one lucky gal...GORGEOUS! :)
ReplyDeletethe weighted hula hoop definitely works your abs/obliques!
DeleteI love the time saved working out at home!!! That is my favorite perk...or having my own bathroom only feet away! Your foot looks...interesting. I hope it feels 100% soon! I don't mind airports because the people watching is usually great and it usually means I am headed somewhere warm!!!
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing that bruise looks bad! I used to get so excited going to the airport as a kid too! I love going places but the whole travelling between places is tiring!! Sad your bro is leaving!
ReplyDeleteCan you hula hoop? That is awesome! I'm so jealous!!! I am so bad with a hoop but I LOVE it!
Glad you got a little sweat on! Weighted hula hoops sounds painful? Maybe I'm imagining it wrong. Your poor little footy, I hope it is at 200% soon! Safe travels to your brother!
ReplyDeleteIt may hurt a little at first, but after a few tries, you get used to it. It's a GREAT ab workout!
DeleteAye, that looks seriously painful! I'm glad it's feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI tried a weighted hula hoop that had, like, all these rounded spikes pointing inwards, and it was THE most painful thing ever. I don't know why, but I tried to use it multiple times because I kept forgetting how much it hurt. Not sure what the point of the spikes are! I love regular hula hoops, though.
Home workouts are nice because you can look particularly horrendous/wear significantly less clothing if it's hot. Also, obviously, saving the time it takes to get to the gym.
Love airports (so many interesting people!), hate flying. It's an irrational but very real fear!
hmm wow, i'm tryna figure out why they'd put spikes on a hula hoop?!?! Lol ouch!!
DeleteOMG!! I'm so sorry that you got hurt! That looks extremely painful. I hope you get better soon!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job finding ways to be active while you are not able to run!
Also, I have a weird obsession with airports... they are actually one of my favorite places to be. I love the stores, and find almost all magazines more interesting at airport stores than at regular convenience stores. I love the moving sidewalks. And I definitely love people watching at airports.
Hi I hope you get better soon!!! this pic of your foot looks painful!!! I hope you are doing well for not being able to run!! The best way to stay in shape is find alternatives eventhough they are not always as fun as running :-)
ReplyDeleteAh so sorry to hear about your foot- what a killjoy in the midst of your training! However I'm glad that you're making the most of the situ by trying alternate forms of exercise! When I injured my foot last year and had to take a timeout from exercise, I kept up my cardio with the arc trainer and it definitely helped me maintain my fitness levels- the transition back to running 6 weeks later was much better than expected!
ReplyDeletei use the fitness room in my condo building and LOVE just walking down the stairs to get there. very convenient!
ReplyDeletesafe travels to your brother!
glad the ankle is feeling better. love the colours on the hula hoop!!
Happy Tuesday! And nice job with the hooping.
ReplyDeleteAirports drive me nuts as well :-(. Going somewhere is usually exciting though. Coming home is always a real pain!
Glad you're keeping busy and entertained, but get better soon!!
ReplyDeleteAirports, ughh. Never know what you're going to get!
Although I fly pretty often, I don't mind flying at all!
ReplyDeleteI flew all the time as a kid, so yeah, airports got old fast. It's still the easiest way to get places, but ugh, the HASSLE. Takes clothes off, put clothes on, put this is bags, take this out of bags, get there early, your flight leaves late...Oi.
ReplyDeleteAnd OUCH! That's quite the bruise you're sporting! Heal up fast--and have fun hula-hooping in the meantime ;)
I can't believe with all my airport hating I forgot to include the hassle of the security line. Agreed!
DeleteSo glad your foot is feeling better! Yikes, that is a huge bruise! I love that you hula-hooped, so fun!!
ReplyDeleteI actually love airports- they are exciting to me!! :) I hope you have a great day!
Holy moly - look at the bruising!! Are you sure nothing is broken? :( I'm glad it's starting to feel a little better though - definitely a good idea not allowing it to get stiff...I think you're right in that it'll hurt a lot more if it does. But just take it easy. Most important thing is that it heals :)
ReplyDeleteI've never used a weighted hula-hoop before. Or actually even heard of them! I'm intrigued. I kinda wanna get one so I can feel like a little kid again, yet actually get a workout from it haha
it is a greaat workout..your abs/obliques certainly feel it!
DeleteOuch! That looks painful! Glad to hear you're on the mend though! And I love that you hula hooped! I won a hula hooping contest when I was 10 years old and it remains my only claim to fame, haha.
ReplyDeletehahaha LOVE IT!! I'm not winning contests for it anytime soon.. lol
DeleteOh my goodness that looks horrible. I'm so sorry. I really hope that gets better asap so you can at least run a bit in March. Glad your able to do some other kinds of workouts.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of airports/flying because no matter what I try, my ears hurt throughout the whole flight and even after we land! Ugh. And a weighted hula hoop is such a great idea, I want one! glad you're starting to heal up.
ReplyDeleteI haven't hoola hooped in quite a while, I may have to go get one :)
ReplyDeleteHope your food feels better soon!!
OUCH! Feel better, lady love!
ReplyDeleteAlso,I LOVE HULA HOOPING!!!! It's my little known talent :P
Owwwwwwwww, I definitely think swimming is the way to go. Yikes--I can feel the pain just looking at the picture :(
ReplyDeleteYikes! That is a nasty injury. Hope it goes away soon!
ReplyDeleteOh my GOSH!! That foot looks terribly painful! **here comes the mom, former knee-surgery ankle-spraining basketball player and wife of an athletic trainer**
ReplyDeleteAre you icing? Elevating? Do you need an X-Ray? Are you doing massage on it to try to prevent blood pooling in your foot (kinda gross, sorry)?
FEEL BETTER, friend!!!!
Oh my that looks painful...!!!
ReplyDeleteI love to travel although I don't like the transit time :P
Oh my gosh, your poor foot :(
ReplyDeleteI haven't hula hooped in ages. But I do remember my last non-childhood hula hooping session to be pretty difficult.
I can barely hula hoop with a regular one, let alone a weighted one lol I loved flying when I was little, and haven't flown since!! I'm dying to do it again!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you're stunning!! I wish I looked that good when I rolled out of bed!
ReplyDeleteLesley / bytheporchlight.com
I haven't visited your blog for a few days and obviously I missed something! I'm so sorry you hurt your foot. I will read back a few days and see what you did... I just signed up to follow you, so I won't miss your future posts! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love my hula hoop! I use it with my clients sometimes just to break things up and kind of give them a little fun treat. They love it!
Oh my gosh! When did that happen??? I hope it heals pronto!
ReplyDeleteI haven't hula-hooped in YEARS! Well not with an actual hoop. That used to be the ish back in the day. Totally forgot how those things can give you a good workout.
I love traveling i.e after getting off the flight and going through the whole customs/immigration round. I'm planning a trip to Paris for the Christmas as we speak...let's hope it goes off without a hitch.
xx
PARIS! oh gosh, I've never been. that will be sooo beautiful!
DeleteHoly crap!! That bruise looks awful! I hope it doesn't hurt as much as it looks like it does.
ReplyDeleteOooh...the pain of flying with a head cold! Awful! Been there, done that!
Good for you staying off your foot! I hope it continues to improve quickly!!
ReplyDeleteOMG- that is your just rolled out of bed face? Geeesh, take some ugly pills girl, you're making the rest of us look bad! ;)
I ADORE airports. I seriously think they are one of the coolest places ever.
I just bought a hula hoop this week! Thought it would be a fun workout.

I LOVE to travel. I made a commitment to myself back in 2008 to travel to at least one new country per year. So far so good. I used to want to travel for work but like you said, traveling ALL the time may get old fast.
ReplyDeleteI love hula hooping! That's our family exercise. We have about ten hoops, and we get them out and roll them around. Do you ever do arm hooping? If you get on youtube, you can find tons of tutorials for hula hoop tricks. It's awesome!
ReplyDeleteAnd glad your foot is doing better!
ReplyDeleteI think I've done the same thing to my ankle before, though not as bad. No fun! Good job staying off it for awhile. I know it's hard to stay away when you're so motivated to run, but better to chill and not make an injury even worse. At least you were out of commission while your brother was home :)
ReplyDeleteTravel is what I spend all my fun money on, although it's definitely not as glamorous as it used to be. We try to take one big trip and a few little trips a year. Flying is a hassle, but it's worth it once you get there.
Hope you're back to 100% soon!
Impressive bruising and swelling!! Hope you get better soon!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I used to LOOOOVE airports and flying. Now I don't. I get so tired of waiting for flights and I always seem to sit next to a rude/annoying person on the airplane. I do love traveling though :)
ReplyDeleteA weighted hula hoop? What a fun workout!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with being over airports and flying.
That bruise looks absolutely brutal - take care of it!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't hula hoop to save my life! Never have been able to! I'm just not super coordinated I suppose :) I don't mind the actual flying, but airports are always a hassle.
ReplyDeleteSOOOOOOOOO sorry about your foot!!
ReplyDeleteI love hula hoops!
I also love traveling... delays not so much.. but I love it for some reason.. maybe cause i don't do it as often..
So sorry to hear about your foot! It looks like it hurts. Take it easy!
ReplyDeleteI love to travel but I would agree that airports do get old but at least you get there faster than you of you traveled other ways.
Ouch!! Take it easy on that foot! As for airports, no thanks!! I am fearful of flying and I hate large crowds. Not a good combo!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me you are okay! :)
ReplyDeleteYou haven't updated in a week! Yes, I am a creeper!
Hope you are feeling better love!
I am thinking about you. How is it going?
ReplyDeleteI just done Hula Hoop in a circuit class and I think it must have been the first time in around 20years, I LOVED IT lol!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are on the mend your poor foot still looks pretty sore!
I dont fly often so airports normally mean im heading somewhere hot , happy times :) although I'm not the best at flying :(
Take Care xxx
Oh, I love love love airports. I love traveling -- probably because it's always for leisure!
ReplyDeleteAs far as home workouts go, I don't do them often because I tend to find more motivation when I'm surrounded by others, but I absolutely appreciate how much time they save!
How's your recovery coming along? Good I hope!
ReplyDeleteThinking of you! Hope you are recovering well. I've been missing your posts!

I mean, I don't want to tell you how to run your website, however suppose you added a post title that grabbed a person's attention?
I mean "Hula Hoopin + Hatin' on airports" is kinda boring.
You could peek at Yahoo's front page and note how they create post titles to get viewers to click. You might add a video or a picture or two to get readers excited about what you've
