I was sitting with my laptop surfing the net. My legs started to fall asleep a little bit. I needed a drink so got up to head to the fridge.
The moment I got up and put my right foot down to walk, it gave out and I rolled over on it.
Oh.My.Goodness. The pain.
I tried to find on the internet a picture to describe what I did. This sums it up nicely:
It is now 24 hours later and the whole area of the outer part of my right foot where I landed is swollen and completely bruised.
Huge throbbing pain and it's extremely sensitive to touch.
I can't put my foot down flat (or anything remotely close to flat).
Every mile I've ran this year has been injury free. No niggling pains or hint of any issues with my legs or health. Soreness from long runs here and there, but generally, very healthy. It's funny that this is the way I get injured.
From the flu that had me down and out the past 7 days, to this..maybe I'm not meant to run in March??!
I've never experienced an injury to this part of my foot before, so I'm not sure how long this will affect me..but deep down, I have a feeling this will take a while. The pain is just really BAD.
Not running is one thing..but no cardio AT ALL is honestly going to be very hard to deal with, because it's my way to release the stress and ups and downs of a day. hmm!! I need yoga in my life.
I'm definitely bummed out at the moment..but trying to stay upbeat about it and hope for the best! Come ooon universe, heal me!

Oh no! That is totally something I would do :( Can you swim at your gym?
ReplyDeleteSweetie, I am so sorry!!! Non-running injuries are the worst! Well they are all bad, but I can relate to how bummed you must be aftet injuring myself in pilates. I hope it gets better really quickly! I am very sad for you. I will send good thoughts straight to your ankle.
ReplyDeleteNooo! I'm so sorry! It's time to get a swim suit, I think.
ReplyDeleteI fractured my foot once like this. You must go get X-rays, if it's swollen, bruised and you cannot walk on it , it is very likely that you broke something. Please do go and have it checked.
ReplyDeleteSending lots and lots of healing thoughts your way!!
ReplyDeleteHealth comes first, maybe this was the universe's way of telling you to slow down? Not sure! But I hope you heal fast!!!! :) :)
That's awful! If you know how to swim and want to maintain some cardio, I'd suggest that, but use a pull buoy between your legs so you don't have to kick. I don't think pool running would help since you'd still be using your feet. You could always try it and see if it hurts. Hope it's a quick heal situation.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great suggestion with the buoy - would have never thought of doing that. Thank you!!
DeleteOh no! So sorry to hear about this. I second all the comments about swimming if you can get in a pool. If it does not feel better soon, you should definitely get it checked out. Delaying that will just make it longer until you are healed. Sending happy / healing vibes your way!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm so sorry! Take it easy, don't rush it and try and be patient (always easier said than done) ;-) March is alawys a crap-tastic month, in my opinion...sending lots of quick healing vibes your way!
ReplyDeleteYou are having the worst luck! I hope that March was in like a lion & will go out like a lamb for you...
ReplyDeleteoh no!!! I'm so sorry but I concur with above - time to get swimming :)
ReplyDeletethat is my biggest fear though - winding up injured in a non running way. I tend to trip a lot, curbs...uneven side walks...my own two feet...
I hope you get better soon, just rest up as much as possible!
No that is bad!!! Hope it is not as bad as you think. Maybe you could try spinning ?
ReplyDeleteOh no how awful!!!!! Hope you recover soon!!
ReplyDeleteSending hugs xxx
NOOO! I am so sorry this happened! I hope you recover quickly!
ReplyDeleteOh NOOOOO!! You poor thing! So sorry that this happened! Praying it heals quickly!
ReplyDeleteThis is awful! I am so sorry to hear about this. Maybe ice it? Feel better!
ReplyDeleteOh nooooo! Just when you were starting to feel better from being sick too! As much as you hate to hear it, staying off it 100% is the only thing that will heal it quickly. Good luck girl!!
ReplyDeletePraying for a fast recovery chica! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you poor thing :( I hope you have a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteSo sad! Definitely don't push it before it's completely healed. Try to embrace the resting. Maybe you can find one of those arm cycles -- what are those called??!!
ReplyDeleteI had a foot issue at one point, and it was super sore for a few days, and then suddenly it was fine... Maybe you will get lucky! I will be rooting for you.
ReplyDeleteOooh dear... :( Ankles are a pain! :( I did this a few years back, so here's some (unsolicited) advice:
ReplyDelete1. Go to the doctor - even if it's just for a stabilizing boot, some crutches, and a work note. The crutches feel ridiculous, but the longer you can stay off it at first, the better (and the boot helped me start walking again sooner).
2. Lots of RICE, and don't be alarmed by the crazy colors that will develop. When I did mine, my toes turned purple. My toes didn't even HURT.
3. You can still life weights while sitting down. :) Crutches are also a really good upper body workout.
4. As you start to heal, other cardio options will pop up: hand cycling at first (if a nearby gym has a hand cycle), then swimming and regular cycling.
5. Stay positive! This won't last forever.
Sending good, healing vibes your way!
I agree that you need to see a doctor! I hope you heal quickly!
ReplyDeleteI used to roll my ankles like that all the time but it was always just a sprain. Sometimes it would take a few weeks, other times a few hours to feel normal. It was strange. I hope yours is a minor injury! I second the weight lifting suggestions... lots of quick reps = cardio, sorta!
ReplyDeleteThinking of you!
See a doctor. Then to get your runner's high, google aqua jogging. Buy a belt and hit your local indoor pool and go to town. I have a friend that trained for a 10k and got a killer pr by doing this. She would "jog" 1:1 ratios (1 minute sprint, 1 minute slow) for chunks of time (5 min, laps, 10 min, laps, 15 min, laps, 10 min laps, 5 min laps) and then swim laps in between. I did it at the end of the summer when I was injured and it can be a good replacement when you've got such a crappy injury.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the suggestion. Definitely keeping that in mind. I think I'd love to try that just to try it anyway!
Deleteoh no! praying for a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I wouldn't be able to function! I'm sending you good vibes for a very quick recovery!
ReplyDeleteoh nooo :(!! I'm so sorry that happened! Go see a doctor!
ReplyDeleteOh no! That's so sad and frustrating!! I will be praying for you to heal quickly!! I will run extra hard in your honor!! :)
ReplyDeleteyesssssssss, run for meeee. Thanks love!
DeleteOh no poor you! Keep your leg raised as much as possible and ice it after you are on it. Poor thing!!! Take care of yourself though, don't rush back.
ReplyDeleteOh wow that suck! hope you'll feel better soon and remember that your health comes first!
ReplyDeletehttp://myfashionfoodstyle.blogspot.co.il/
ooo, that is just plain BAD NEWS, TR. i have my fingers crossed for you. what a bizarre incident...keep us posted and i am thinking of you!!!
ReplyDeleteI did this very same thing except to my left foot on Christmas eve 2011, was in the ER on Christmas day.
ReplyDeleteoh gosh! I'm sorry to hear about that!
DeleteOh my gosh, it would figure the very first time I visit your blog, you're injured! I hope you heal soon! I'm sending you super fast get better now thoughts.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear this...keep us all updated. Wishing you a speedy recovery - you have been making such great progress!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm sorry to hear this :( I hope it heals fast! Yes!!! Try yoga while your down!!! Great opportunity :)
ReplyDeleteOh no!! Try not to get too down about it, take this time to relax and enjoy being a couch potato while you heal!!
ReplyDeleteOh my friend, I'm so sorry! I've been there before during the off season of my basketball days. You'll back at it before you know it. Don't fret over it just make sure you take care of yourself and try not to rush back too soon.
ReplyDeleteOH no!! Sorry to hear that! Freak accident. Get well immediately. Take it easy, I promise you won't miss a step and you will be back up in no time.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! I'm so sorry to hear this, but I am glad that you're being smart about it - a little rest now means you'll be spared permanent damage later!
ReplyDeleteI once rolled my foot like that (but I landed on top my foot with my body weight) I broke three bones inside my foot, I didn't think it was bad at first so I didn't get it checked out until a couple days later when it just kept getting worse! I had made the injury worse by hoping along on it and to this day that foot effects me! So anything to do with your feet it's a good idea to get it looked at if it really hurts because we depend so much on them! I hope you feel better and it's nothing bad!!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh - OUCH just reading that!!
DeleteWow, wow and more wow. Don't worry about the running; you need to walk on that foot for the rest of your life.
ReplyDeleteYou can do some cardio without your foot like swimming or handbike.
AHHHHH, I'm so sorry! That's horrible :( Was it simply that you just stepped down on the foot wrong, or were you a little hurt & it gave out? Either way, SUCH a bummer!! It's one thing not to run, it's another not to be able to do any cardio. But Paul is right...you gotta be able to walk so recovery & healing is #1
ReplyDeleteit really was just the foot went numb because of the way I sat and it gave out! Ach!
DeleteI hope you heel soon! I roll my ankle a lot, and it got so swollen last year I couldn't wear shoes. But it went down really quickly and I was able to keep running :) I hope it's the same for you!
ReplyDeleteOh no! that's what you were talking about in the other post. Aww! Hope it heels up. Remember "RICE" and see the doctor if it gets bad!
ReplyDeleteHow dreadful!! I'm so worried about getting an injury!
ReplyDeleteMarch: In like a lion, out like a lamb. Hopefully you get better very soon and have no other issues the rest of this month! I'm so sorry to hear about your injury!
ReplyDeleteOH NO! That is terrible! I am so sorry to hear this! I have never rolled my ankle like that before so I can't imagine how bad the pain must be. Sending well wishes your way!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry! I hope it heals fast and nicely!
ReplyDeleteOh no!!! I'm so sorry! That just sucks :( I wish you speedy recovery, and please, reign yourself in and don't try anything too soon. You don't want to make it worse.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh noooo.... I hope your foot heals quickly!
ReplyDeleteWow! Such a simple act too. That is crazy! Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteoh u poor thing...take care!! i'm soooo sorry, and sending u all the happy healing fast vibes!! u WILL make it thru this, it sucks, but take it easy and feel better ASAP!
ReplyDeleteOMG THATS CRAZY! I just read your post and what happened to you. So sorry to hear that!! I hope you heal soon. I hear you on the cardio thing but remember this is only temporary and your health comes first.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what happened to you....this is crazy buddy!
ReplyDeleteOh no!! You poor thing :( I would be crying!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I was going to suggest aqua jogging. I watch a guy do it every morning while I'm up on the treadmill running. I have heard it works wonders.
I hope you heal quickly. Take some Diclofenac ;)
Awesome job on your running. WOW! I recently ran 13.02 on the treadmill. Wowza. My first time logging that amount of miles on the tready.
That is so crappy you have an injury that presents you from running - I'm so bummed our for you because you were doing awesome with reaching your running goals. Fingers crossed that its almost healed by now and you can enjoy April and the warmer weather by getting back into running.
