First of all, 3 more pro compression socks arrived in the mail today. Another 2 shall be coming this week.
Christmas all over again!! I LOVE all things colour (can you tell with the absolutely-nothing-matches outfit??), and looove the variety of colours these socks come in.
I had no idea what type of run I wanted to do Tuesday. Started off at 10:00m/miles, then ended up holding 8:40 for 2.3miles, and up to 8:10 to round up to 3 miles. That is fast for my short legs! I rounded it up to 7 miles with a super relaxed feeling 9:40 pace.
How much of your working out is for the purpose to look gooood?
In my opinion, nothing wrong with working out to look good. It's great to feel good and confident about yourself, with every aspect of yourself (who you are, your intelligence/ability, what you look like etc).
To me, NOTHING is more priceless and beautiful than self-confidence and loving yourself.
I don't run for what I look like. Usually when I'm running a lot, I'll gain weight because I've got one maaaad appetite.
Running is some serious therapy for me.
I think I do A LOT of what most runners would call "junk miles". But to me, I run to get that incredible high..because after that, not a thing in life brings me down.
My goal for running isn't to do lots of races and knock out PR's here and there. I just want to really build my endurance and be able to happily run looong (and do a marathon!)
Lately though, I've been hitting the weights and consistently getting in about 3 good sessions a week. I do weights for vanity! I want muscle! I want to build muscle and tone up! There, I said it! And, it feels so good to *feel* strong - which I've really felt lately, strength! uhh, My diet isn't the best though - a little too much processed foods, chocolate, etc. Not too "clean" at the moment. Hmph!

I'm at my parents place and it snowed like MAD today. I can't waiiiit for spring time so I don't have to be doing the bundled-up look all the time.
And when it's cold, I drink lots of soup! Mom-made minestrone soup. {wait, do you say eat or drink soup??} This is the reason I like to stay at my parents pretty often.
Happy Wednesday!
What are YOU doing today??
I'm going running-shoe shopping later!! My nike's already have about 200 miles on them. I need new ones to rotate! No idea what I'm looking for..so it'll be a case of trying on lots, and hopefully finding a pretty one to take home! Yes, they have to be pretty.

Hi I think it is more important to work out to be strong and healthy than to be thin. I read another blog recently when strong is the new skinny and I completely agree - go with the weights, muscles are good!
ReplyDeleteyou are looking so cute in the cap pic!!!
ReplyDeleteI did start working out to look good and feel more confident, but now I also want to be fitter.
I certainly run to keep in shape, and to keep my figure. So I suppose I run to look gooood!
ReplyDeletei am with you on being ready for spring!! we got ice rain/sleet/snow in waterloo, yesterday!
ReplyDeleteyea for running shoe shopping! can't wait to hear about it! hope you consider going to the running room!!! :)
i love running in the morning. it really puts me in a good mood and i say to myself, no matter what happens today, you got in an energizing and positive start to the day.
love the socks!!
I really wish I was more of a morning person/exerciser. Like you say, The times that I do it in the morning sets the mood up SO nicely for the rest of the day!
DeleteI used to exercise just to look good, but nowadays I do it to prevent injury. After being stuck "resting" after a few serious injuries over a couple of years, I know now that I need to take it easy and do things the slow way to make sure I stay injury-free.
ReplyDeleteMost of my working out is for the purpose of feeling strong, not looking good (and I DEFINITELY don't look good WHILE working out, unless you're into "red faced and dripping sweat"). I love knowing that I can lift things, move things, control my body, and have the strength/stamina to participate in any other activities that catch my fancy.
ReplyDeleteThe other stuff: getting to eat more, good arm definition, etc. is just a bonus. The endorphins don't hurt, either. :)
I totally, well largely workout to look better and now I'm also addicted! You actually look like you've lost weight in that compression sock pic. Not that you needed too!
ReplyDeleteI have still never tried running in compression socks. Love the colours!!! Pretty is always a huge factor in deciding on running shoes for me!
I teach weight classes on top of other things and yes I know the purpose is to be healthy and fit but I have to agree that looking good is part of it and I don't see anything wrong with it. We all want to feel the absolute best about ourselves. You look cute in all the colors! Have fun shopping! What's your favorite running shoe? People are always asking me and I don't run, so I have no clue. I'm headed to teach BODYPUMP and getting my hair done today WHOOP!
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing Nike Lunarflys right now, which are GREAT..but I've always loved, loved, loved the Asics brand!
DeleteI have SO much respect for group exercise instructors. Such a hard job to motivate everyone and let everyone have FUN too. I was a BodyAttack ADDICT about a year ago!
THX for the reply anybody running this much surely has figured out the best, I'll use that as a ref point from now own. I <3 Body Attack! That will be my next cert.
Deletei workout because of the feeling i get, the good looks are just a plus that help to keep me going lol i say "eat" soup, but technically i drink it....i don't believe in junk miles, i think they are all worth something, whether it be mentally or physically :) have fun shopping for running shoes today !!! i'm headed back to class after a long weekend off
ReplyDeleteYou should check out a specialty running store like Fleet Feet or something along those lines. They'll be able to hook you up with shoes that are perfect for your running style.
ReplyDeleteI love your new socks! I've been thinking about getting the Pro Compression socks in orange. Now I'm really tempted. :) I definitely run for the mental component, too. Running is so great for clearing your head. And running endorphins are pretty awesome, too. Good luck finding new shoes that you love! My plan for today is a medium-long run and some yoga.
ReplyDeleteI love my "junk miles" too. I had no idea what I wanted to yesterday so I just ran slow for 5 miles and it was awesome. Sometimes you just need a no-pressure run :)
ReplyDeleteI run to look good, feel good, and eat more food, obvi. I'm with you on the running shoes, they have to be as pretty as they are comfortable! I LOVE my Saucony running shoes that I got a few weeks ago! When I wasn't training for this half marathon on Sunday, I always ran just to run. It comforts me and gives me time to think and breathe. It's seriously amazing.
ReplyDeleteI definitely run for food. I love to eat, so I relate to your maaad appetite. :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely run so I can eat massive amounts of good food, like following a marathon! Interesting about eating or drinking soup. In China, everyone says drink all the time, but in the US it is eat. Chinese soup is also a lot more like broth where we have pretty hearty soups here in the US. Maybe it depends on the type of soup?
ReplyDeleteI workout to feel good -- it's my ME time and I love it!! I have a crazy appetite too so I totally understand that. Can't wait to see what shoes you get. I am in need of a new pair myself. :)
ReplyDeletebeing healthy is important and looking good coms along with it! <3
ReplyDeleteI just like being healthy! Buuuuuut I like to lift to get awesome results-both with health and some tone & definition! You are so in shape though, looking awesome girl!
ReplyDeleteXO, Kelsey
Way to crank it up and get that speed in there - then add on more miles! You rock! I think that adding in that little bit of speed like you did is what helps me get the endorphin high even higher! I just made a little resolution to get in at least one tabata/strength/HIIT workout per week... now that my mileage is up I am having a hard time with that!
ReplyDeleteI workout to keep healthy and maintain my weight! I use to lift for the goal of competition, but after I had my daughter that all changed! I think you look great! I have the hardest time getting athletic shoes there are so many cute ones now and finding the right one is so hard!!
ReplyDeleteCute hat.
ReplyDeleteI think working out to look good is a bonus to keeping yourself healthy and fit. Working out is a mental health break for me, something I do for myself. And of course, taking care of your body is a bi-product of that.
nothing wrong with working out to look good. i think that's most people's motivation. i guess it doesn't matter the motivation as long as people are doing it. i'm with you on the gaining weight when i run a lot. what gives? i eat everything in sight. need to figure that one out. i LOVE weight training and want to be as defined as possible. we're all in this together right? i like your attitude about running. that's my stance too. i LOVE running but it's still all in good fun. if i get too obsessed with it it won't be fun anymore.
ReplyDeleteI run to keep myself on-track with my eating and other workouts. Running was always something I never thought I could do, and when I run, I feel amazing and unstoppable. I eat better, push harder with the weights, and I'm a more generous friend and spouse! Total therapy for me, too!
ReplyDeleteOne question: what are "junk" miles?
I agree that running is most definitely therapeutic more than anything else! However, having a baby definitely adds a little more to running...I definitely use it now to lose a little of that weight, but it's always a hobby and a love more than doing it to "look good." I LOVE your hat, by the way! Spring and baseball is coming, yay!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the exercising to look good. I HAVE to run to stay sane, I choose to run to look good and maintain fitness. But please, there is no such thing as a junk mile. Any mile you are able to run is a blessing and I really hate that term.
ReplyDeleteAGREED about junk miles!! thank you!
DeleteI run (and lift weights) to feel like a better version of me. I love feeling strong and healthy. It's not necessarily about looks, but I like that I look fit because I do these things too.
ReplyDeleteToday I'm working for most of the day, then doing my P90x workout. Just a typical week day, I guess. :) Hope you find some fun new shoes! Also, I'm jealous of all your new ProCompression socks. I want to buy more, but I can't justify the spending right now. haha. So many fun colors!
I like working out because it just makes me feel.. better! Inside and out!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I agree, I workout to FEEL good & looking good usually follows that feeling. People that workout just to look good are probably not as motivated for the "right" reasons if that makes sense! Happy Wednesday to you as well girl!
ReplyDeleteOh man! I miss that "high." Even though it was more of a "run/walk" thing for friend and I, it still felt incredible.
ReplyDeleteI used to run to lose weight but now half the time I run because I love to eat. And will say I gained a couple marathon training. Eat ALL the carbs, okay.
ReplyDeleteWeight lifting is what helps me lean out and get some sexy muscles going. And not going to lie, I want to get lean and have some abs. That whole loving to eat a ton thing gets in the way a bit.
I don't know if I work out to "look good," but I definitely work out for confidence! I never feel more bad-ass, capable and ready to take on the world than after a good lifting workout!
ReplyDeleteAnd can I come share your closet? I'm such a sucker for bright-all-over outfits. As long as it's all bright, I say it's matching ;)
It's good you are hitting the weights and have a good idea what you want to get out of running. I always think that getting in shape and being strong is more important than counting calories and getting down on myself when I occasionally eat processed junk food! I reflexively tend to eat better when I am in training, so I try to just focus on the training.
ReplyDeleteI will be running later too!!!! I eat and drink soup so I think you are safe either way! please share what shoes you end up purchasing!!!
ReplyDeleteElla & I went shopping today. I didn't get any new kicks, but she did! I did get some sports bras on clearance at Target though bc not only do I work out to look good, I also like to look good while I work out ;)
ReplyDeleteI definitely run to help balance my appetite haha. I like to eat almost anything I want, and running helps allow me to do that. It makes me feel strong, and damn confident too! WAHOO new shoeS!
ReplyDeleteYay!!! for compression socks!!!
ReplyDeleteHmm... I'd say you're a fan of compression socks? Lol! I love them, too :) As for working out to look good, I definitely use that to motivate myself to do strength work, but running... I think running makes me fat! I always gain weight when marathon training, but I love my running, so I just deal. I totally agree that running is therapeutic and I think you have a fantastic running goal :)
ReplyDeleteI work out for both purposes and I also see nothing wrong with that! Did you find new shoes???
ReplyDeleteLove the colorful outfit!
ReplyDeleteAfter I did the Power Sculpt DVD this morning and after every yoga class I feel incredibly strong. Love that feeling, too!
Good luck finding shoes!
Good luck shoe shopping. Nike is my favorite brand. I always have good luck with them. I must say I run for vanity. I started running to combat the weight gain from stopping smoking over 10 years again. But I race for FUN!!!
ReplyDeleteI run for the same reason. I love it. But I strength train not to build muscle, but to supplement my running and keep me healthy. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThinking about this post later in the day, I had to come back to comment again - don't insult your workout by calling them "junk miles". :)
ReplyDeleteFads aside, *most* evidence suggests that, to become a faster runner, you have to run more miles (Specificity of Training). Research indicates that runners continue to make significant gains in fitness while increasing weekly mileage up to 60-80 miles/wk (there is less "return" after ~80 miles/wk). In other words, to get faster, you have to run more - mostly slow, steady miles. I'm not saying you have to aspire to 80 miles/wk (Ack!) - but as long as your body tolerates it, all those "easy" miles go into your Fitness Bank!
oooh thank you for this!! I don't personally believe in junk miles. as someone said earlier - EVERY mile is a blessing..walking/running, whatever! :D
DeleteI am with you-fun colors always go together. I used to be in a black only clothing phase but now love trying to see how many colors I can get into one outfit :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about your new kicks!! Brooks?!?!?
ReplyDeleteYou have so many pairs of procompression socks where are you buying them from? I have only been able to find them for $50 which is way out of my price range. Also I run because it make me feel better I do weights to look good...ave to work on my beach body for the October Iron Man!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Weights are for vanity in my world too ;-). And running is the best sport. Your blog is such a sunshiney place!
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute bundled up though!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not going to be the only one with non-matching running outfits! I'm already picturing how I'm going to look with my hot pink PRO Compression socks, matched with my neon green running shoes. I felt like it was Christmas when mine arrived too :)
ReplyDeleteI run for a lot of reasons, and one of them is to look good. Also the natural high and the endorphins. It definitely calms me down. Basically, I just <3 running.
ReplyDeletePs: You are a cutie-pa-tootie!
I feel so guilty because I don't run. I don't work out. :/
ReplyDeletei love how colorful you are in the first photo!
AND that drink or eat soup question made me think. I think it's eat lol. Iono. ;)
Youre such a cute runner!
I run for a lot of reasons, mostly because I feel so much better emotionally as a result. I think it gives me a balanced mind! But I do LOVE the high and I am not complaining about my legs :)
ReplyDeleteLove the socks!
ReplyDeleteIdk... I definitely workout to look good, but it also makes me feel amazing so it's a win win! Love all your bright colors :)
ReplyDeleteToday I'm blowing off my yoga class to hibernate with my hunnie. I'm going to try and get a few push ups in for a quick living room workout!
I do the same thing in my living room and randomly throughout the day - drop and do pushups! Hope you had a great time with your hunnie!
DeleteI work out primarily to FEEL good, but I'll admit I love my strong legs and I sometimes put my hand son my thighs when I go up the stairs to feel the muscles in them. LOL Is that terribly vain or WHAT????
ReplyDeletehahaha you GOT it, rock it!!!
DeleteI love doing weights as it is actually quite relaxing for me, haha!
