People often say you should never go out in sweatpants because it shows how little you care about your appearance. Well, man..sometimes, getting dressed and cleaned up is simply too much effort, especially when you have a day off!

People often say you should never go out in sweatpants because it shows how little you care about your appearance. Well, man..sometimes, getting dressed and cleaned up is simply too much effort, especially when you have a day off!
I went grocery shopping looking a mess yesterday:
Afterwards, I met up with a gf at a little cafe to catch up.
Hot chocolate + brownies = win.
Meeting my friend meant I had to clean myself up a bit. Bummer.
Fact: I really, really dislike wearing jeans. (those are not jeans I'm wearing). If I find a pair I like/are flattering on me, I'll buy the same one twice. {What's a good jean brand??} Also, I am SUPER awkward and never buy the item that I tried on. It has to be a different one off the rack. Weirdo, I'm aware.
Are you a wear make-up every day person??
I used to be 100% make-up free. I only wore lip gloss to my university graduation for example. These days, I'll put on my fave estee lauder foundation and blush when I see my friends because it's a nice change! Otherwise, I'm usually bare-faced for work and every day in between!
Anyyyway, my friend isn't a runner, but knows I love it. She brought me a book as a little present!
Has anyone read this??
I will ALWAYS tell you I'm clueless when it comes to running. There are SO many informative running blogs out there. Me, I just run. I'm in the process of really educating myself this year though.
So far, this book is GREAT! It had all the downhill running tips that you guys told me about!
Also, I didn't know about this:
I didn't know about the 180 steps per minute thing. NOTED!
I will also be trying this - slowing waay down for the long runs. I think that might be a challenge to not push the pace...because I have no idea how to pace myself.
Has there been anything interesting/new-to-you that you discovered about running??
There is A LOT new to me. From not heel-striking, how to run up and downhill, doing speed-work, fueling and to pacing. It's a bit overwhelming how much is new because I simply just put on shoes and run. I'm trying to "do it right" this year so I'm slowly gathering the information.

I took it outside for my run yesterday. It's been a while since I've run outside! The weather was perfeeection:
I did the first 6 miles in 56:45 minutes and then slowed it down for mile 7.
It is ICY out there. The first 4 miles were spent slippin and sliding. Yikes!
I have to say - these pro compression socks REALLY work. My calves and legs feel absolutely fantastic. I used to really *feel* my runs and really feel heavy-legged. These days, I can happily run the day after I do 13 miles. I ordered 4 more pro compression socks.

Happy Chocolate..err..Valentine's Day!!
Any plans??
I'm spending it with a good friend of mine. Whenever we see each other, he always brings me a little box of chocolates or ferrero rochers(my faaaaaave)..yesss, he knows me well!!
I don't dislike V-Day..I just really don't care much about it. I do dislike like how it can make a lot of people feel sad.
If you do hate it: Love yourself, hug yourself, eat some chocolate (and buy the day-after on-sale chocolate, too) and the day is over. :)

Glad it has warmed up a bit there and you were able to take you run outside. I am not a big make up person but usually wear mascara (except when I run) as I have the most delightful blonde eyelashes! It is nice to sloth around in track pants sometimes:)
ReplyDeleteenjoy the running book!! always great to pick up new ideas to try.
ReplyDeletetoronto was GORGEOUS yesterday! (i was visiting my little nieces) - glad you got out!!
i love my pro compression argyle socks - glad you got more!
i wear a little makeup every day and often skip out to the grocery store in sweats, and own zero pairs of jeans (i prefer jeggings or tights).
have a HAPPY hearts day!
I *live* in tights. I can't deal with anything else because it's all sooo uncomfortable!!
DeleteYess, the last couple days in the city has been absolutely fantastic! Hope you enjoyed your visit!
Happy Valentine's Day! Have a fantastic day and hope you get plenty of chocolate. I haven't read that book, but I love reading anything running-related. Don't overwhelm yourself with too much running advice at a time. Take one or two aspects to work on each time you head out to run.
ReplyDeleteI can not waaaaait to hear how this weekend goes for you...will be stalking your blog!
DeleteI will also be blog stalking! :)
DeleteI've never read a running book but I probably should at some point! Happy Valentine's Day :)
ReplyDeleteGirl you are so pretty, you don't need make-up! I always wear mascara because if I don't, I look like I'm asleep still. And because that's what my sister always did and I copy her! I have to say, here in northern Minnesota, sweatpants are completely normal wear!
ReplyDeleteI've worn mascara once in my life. now THAT is an art to master - how do you get it so it doesn't CLUMP!!! HOOW!!!!! hahah!
DeleteHappy Valentine's day! I'll be spending it with my little family!! I have a few favorite brands of jeans, Hudson's are amazing! They are a little pricey but fit perfectly! Big stars and rock revival (found at the buckle) are really sturdy pair of jeans I have a pair from 4 years ago and still going strong! For on the cheaper side American eagle can be good!! I'm the same way when trying on stuff, more so with shirts!! I don't wear make-up a lot, only thing I'll wear everyday is mascara!!
ReplyDeleteoooh thanks for the jeans recommendation!!
DeleteI think I bought a pair of jeggings from American Eagle before that wasn't bad at all. Time to go back in there!
I am pro compression sock wearing on runs. I can totally feel the difference when running with and without the socks. I ran yesterday without them and my calves were cramping for quite some time after my run last night.
ReplyDeleteI agree - I think I'm even surprised at just how much a difference it's made!
DeleteI hardly wear make-up. I love the days I do, but sometimes I feel like it's just to much work. I always have mascara though - I have blond eyelashes so I need that. I have thick legs and I like the DKNY jeans - fit great! I'll be spending tonight with my OLY crew as I do every thursday. My Valentine is 3000 miles away so I'm use to it :)
ReplyDeleteaw I just read your newest entry - I'm sorry he's so far away!
DeleteThose pants you wore to meet up with your friend... What type are they? They look GREAT! My favorite jeans are Seven for Mankind but sooo expensive, :/. Now that you mention it, I really don't think I've ever seen you pictured in jeans.
ReplyDeleteI love my tracks, I wear the all the time!
ReplyDeleteI love doing make-up but I dont wear it, just a lip gloss, but the thought of looking pretty appeals me :P
You look lovely btw. My jeans have to be very comfy else I wouldn't want to wear them too!
I don't like jeans one bit - won't wear them unless I HAVE to - and I don't wear make-up everyday either - I feel like my face needs to "breath". LOL...
ReplyDeleteYesss..we can hate on jeans together.
Deletehilarious - I used to paint my nails ALL the time..and my mom would tell me when I was younger to let them BREATHE!
What a nice gift from your friend! I have heard about the 180 steps/min thing. I think there is a website where you can find songs that have that beat to help you run with that cadence. A friend of mine who transitioned to 180 steps/min said her coach told her at first she might feel tired faster because you end up moving faster. Might take a bit to get it the right rhythm.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your chocolate today! I know I will!! :)
Happy Valentine's Day to you! I'm not a fan of the Holiday myself-- who likes to be told that there is ONE day that they HAVE to tell their significant other they love themm, or vice-versa? Rubs me the wrong way. If I love someone, I tell them every freaking day (or hour....lol!)!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, agreed! Isn't it kinda funny to think that soooo many people around the world are doing the same thing, at the same time?? hahah (flowers/chocolates etc)
DeleteI don't really care for the holiday, but i do like just spending it with my bf. haha i'm the same way, i go to the store sweats, once i went in my pjs....well since my stupid class grades me on our appearance, i've gotten in the habit of wearing makeup all the time, sometimes it's eyeliner on just the top lid(pencil or liquid, depends on my mood) with mascara of course, other times it's just mascara. but that's as far as my makeup goes, no foundation or anything, my skin kinda hates me and would breakout lol
ReplyDeleteoh man, that's quite intense to be graded on appearance! I'd definitely do the same as you if that was the case for me!
DeleteI was justttt talking to my boyfriend about needing to take more steps/strides per minute when I am running. I def take too few and results with more force on my KNEES!! Cool book, and a thoughtful gift!! No make up for me most days, I am lazy and I just don't care for it. Only on special occasions or if I want to feel girly haha..oh and I HATE jeans too. I found one pair a few months ago and I LOVE them, I should have purchased two.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing, I SO used to never buy the item I tried on too..but then I found that some of the items fit differently than the one I tried on even though it was the same thing! AH! SO now I always buy the one I tried on! HA!
ooooh so you're converted from our little trying-on issue! I freak out a little inside if the one i tried on is the only one/size available. LOL!
DeleteYou're too pretty for make-up!
Happy Valentine's Day!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great present! and some good information - I recommend counting your steps to figure out if you can improve your stride. I worked on my mechanics as far as overstriding to help stave off injuries and after almost a year of it, worked so well!
In marathon training that was a hard one with the long run. I trained as if I would be pacing 9 min/miles for the marathon. Trying to keep the long run at 10/10:30 was just torture, I tried as much as possible without it feeling unnatural.
I love all the science behind running, and learning as much as possible!
I counted my steps on the treadmill today and was shoocked when I was right around 180. I always figure I'm doing SOMETHING wrong! lol!
Deleteoooh , thanks for your input - I NEED to do the whole running slower for the long run. I have nightmares of completely hitting the huge brick wall in a marathon and not finishing because of that!
Totally wish you on the whole I hate that ppl dislike V-day. Why be sour?
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you got that book :) 180 turnover and not pushing your pace are pretty important for injury prevention :)
Happy Valentines (Chocolate) Day :P
I"m always running errands when I leave the gym so yeah I go around looking kinda crazy but other than that I throw a little make up on when I leave the house. It's good that your educating yourself on running. It is always good to learn new things and perfect your workouts. Happy Vday to you too. Due to working overnight I already had brunch and all that fru fru stuff...it's over for me..night night!
ReplyDeleteYou look AMAZE without make up! I generally wear make up every day to work, but not much on the weekends. Mascara is my can't go without item, but I am really into this nude lipstick I got at Sephora recently!
ReplyDeleteduuuuude, screw that, I go out in sweats all the time! Happy valentine's day!
ReplyDeletemy kinda girl!
DeleteI think I really, really need to invest in some compression socks. I have heard nothing but good things about them! I bought myself a foam roller yesterday and am in love. Like seriously, the most amazing thing. I'm really tender today, but I feel GREAT!
ReplyDeleteFor Valentine's Day, I'm having a lady date with my girlfriends and then we're going to go out to the bar :) I'm seriously debating wearing a pink tutu...
Also..this might be a silly question, but do you just buy your compression socks based on your shoe size?
DeleteI can't even recommend compression socks enough. I really, really can't. HUGE difference for me personally since wearing them. I'll wear them after runs as well!
DeleteGosh, I was so confused with what size to get at first - not a silly question at all. I figured - they have to be TIGHT..so, I went with clothing size - and then went one down. I'm usually a size Small in clothes, and figured to get them tight, I got XS in the socks - it's worked out very well that way!
A lot of times, they're sized by calf circumference, too. Although if you're tall, I might suggest sizing up one size so they're long enough. A lot of running stores will also open a pack, or have some out that you can try on before you buy.
DeleteGood luck! Compression = <3!
I must officially not care about appearance (okay, it's not a surprise, I already knew that). If I'm NOT wearing sweatpants or other gym clothes out and about in public, it's an unusual sort of day. Mmm, enjoy your chocolates and the rest of your V-day!
ReplyDeleteAwww you are too cute!!! Make up is a rare treat these days... but I do like putting on some mascara before leaving the the house!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear more about your book! I can't read enough when it comes to running!
I'm on every running website there is - if only I spent that much time with pharmacy stuff..hahaha!
DeleteRunning in Toronto must be miserable in the winter time!!!
ReplyDeleteSo nice of your friend to bring you that book as a gift. Def looks like there's a lot of interesting pointers on there!!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY CHOCOLATE DAY to you too :). Hate to admit it but I been celebrating by eating tons of chocolate. I feel love should be celebrated everyday but a day that also highlights it is also good. HAVE FUN WITH YOUR FRIEND TODAY!
I've been on one chocolate streak since my birthday over a week ago - yiiiikes! haha
DeleteHope you had a fab day!!
Sweatpants are my go to comfy clothing! Honestly I could care less how I look going to the grocery store or anywhere else. I would rather be comfortable lol
ReplyDeleteHappy V-day! I wear make up to work but rarely Fri-sun. I work from home Fri. Yes about slow long runs! I am aiming to race the marathon at 5:40/ km and do my long runsat 6:00 - 6:10/ km.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that you can ran 7 miles in 1 hour and 6 minutes! I can do 6 miles in that time!! I can't wait til when the weather is warmer and I can run longer!!! :)
Running Coach Tip: Best way to keep from obsessing about forefoot striking & 180 steps per minute?
ReplyDelete1. Think about leaning forward just a smidge when you run.
2. Think "fast feet".
Bingo. Leaning forward forces you to catch yourself more on your forefoot, and "quick feet" is less stressful than counting and adjusting. These are the two tips I give my runners when we practice different foot strikes.
And YES, keep those long run miles sloooow. You will recover faster, and your body will thank you!!! =)
Love, A New Fan. :)
THANK YOU, so much!!
Deletei LOVE running books and movies! that one looks great :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a makeup most days girl, but usually go with a blank slate on the weekends to let my face rest and I'm lazy ;)
Your "mess" look isn't too shabby - you add a scarf to anything and I'll consider it fancy!
ReplyDeleteYour friends seem to love giving you random gifts. I wish mine did the same!
It took me forever to learn the don;t push the pace on a long run thing. Forever. I feel like I would do things so differently next time around. I'm glad you're getting some awesome tips
ReplyDeleteI hate jeans too. In fact, I'm terrified about putting mine on. They've been sitting in my wardrobe for months. I think I'll just quit pants. Except sweat pants, which I take out to the shops all the time.
LOL I'm joining you in quitting pants. Leggings, I can do. Comfort, pleaseee. I got so antsy in the pants I'm wearing above..ugh!!
DeleteThat book sounds really interesting!! I wear sweat pants a lot in winter! You look totally cool in sweatcpants. I look 100x daggier! Haha!
ReplyDeleteI used to try and *race* all my long runs and I found out that was the silliest thing ever! I got my fastest when I started taking them super slow. In fact I went with just a timer, not pace tracking. It really helps. I love your outfit. Oh and I work at Smart Set....don't know if you have one near you but they have a "curvy" jean that fits a smaller waist and allows for women's hips! they really have great jeans. You should check
ReplyDeleteoooooooooo thank you! For both the running advice aaand about Smart Set - I have one very close by! Some weekend shopping now :D
Deletei wear makeup because i am not a natural beauty--wish i was! so lucky! i wish ppl wouldn't get so MAD over valentine's. i've always thought of it as a day for all kinds of love, just like thanksgiving is to for giving thanks.
ReplyDeleteagree, agree, agree about V-day. whether you like it or not, I think the IDEA is cute and sweet!
DeleteHaha "Happy Chocolate Day"--> love that :)! I love your blazer- so chic! I swear by J Brand for jeans...they are pricey but given their fit, they are 100% worth the price!
ReplyDeleteLulu is fancy sweats, and I feel less guilty, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou take the cutest pics.
I always wear blush and mascara. I don't have time to get all dolled up like I use to, which is why I live vicariously through you:)
Haha, I do almost all of my grocery shopping in sweats, I swear! I'm funny about jeans sometimes too. if I could wear leggings everywhere, I would!
ReplyDeleteThat book looks amazing. I think it'll be on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteYou looked cozy and adorable to go grocery shopping!! :)
Stacy and Clinton have talked about "The pajamification of America" on What Not to Wear (do you watch this ever?) and I know I contribute to that regularly!
yesss, I watch that show! I used to feel like I had to be quite "made up" before going out anywhere..and I gotta say, THIS way is much better - sweats, leggings, sweaters - comfort!!
DeleteLove chocolate day :) Awesome that you've found a running book you like! I once heard some women talking about how awful it is that young women "these days" wear yoga pants everywhere... I was sitting there (at the nail salon) in yoga pants. Whatever! Sweats/yoga pants are necessary for errand sometimes! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am the same way with buying things off the shelf! I can't pick the item in the front row at a store, I have to take the one behind it. So happy to hear someone is strange like me in that respect. I thought I was alone!
ReplyDelete
