Women At Work

{New Years Eve - Working it Out}
Elliptical : 50 minutes
___________________________________________

I'm about to introduce you to my new best friend.

First of all, do you have any exercise equipment at home? Any cardio machines??
I have a jump-rope, weighted hula hoop, and some random weights to lift.

I've always wanted either a treadmill or elliptical at home, but figured I didn't need one since I have a gym membership.
Lately though, my mom has been so motivated to get working out and be active..and I'm aaaaaall about that. It makes me smile!

I've taken her to my gym before on free trials and she loves the elliptical since it's a full body workout and it's easy on the knees.

So, we went to Canadian Tire and bought my new bestie:

I think the original price was somewhere around 700 dollars, but it's down to 250ish until January 3rd.

My mom is not one that needs any type of crazy functions. She doesn't even care if the thing is plugged in for the different programs it offers - she just wants that moving motion on her legs. That's why we went for a pretty simple, basic, straight forward elliptical.

What WASN'T straight forward was putting it together.
My dad had to get stuff together at work, so it was just mom and I trying to put things together.

It.was.a.mess.
Oh goodness.

Are you handy when it comes to putting things together??
I've always left stuff like this to the guys in the family..so NO, I suck!

Mom and I made a great team though. We took it slow, there was no monumental yelling or throwing parts around. It was actually fun to sit on the floor and figure out this puzzle!

3 hours later, heeeeeeere it is! {weighted hula hoop in the back there}

It's quiet, it's small in size and it really does the trick!

I jumped on it for 50 minutes and played around with the resistance, its settings and to feel it out. I'm SOOO happy with it!

For your viewing pleasure, sweaty face:

I VERY rarely cross train. Cardio is always running..or nothing. I'm so excited to have this at home because I know I'll take full advantage of it!
Life has really changed for me. Never would I imagined myself getting so excited over compression socks, running shoes, and an elliptical. People do change. ha!

  4. I had a treadmill a few years ago (sold it before we moved) and it took forever to put together! But I didn't have to do any of the work lol. My father-in-law did it all

  6. That's awesome! I've always been really fortunate that my parents have quite a bit of equipment in their basement- I don't know what I will do when I move out!

  7. Awesome! I have an empty room for my "at home" gym equipment...so I can do lots of hiit and bodyweight stuff, but the rest requires actually going in to the gym. Which is okay with me, since I'm so bad about working out at home. Love that your mom is in on the fitness too (and what a deal on an elliptical!)

  11. Fantastic! The only equipment I have room for is a set of hand weights. I'd love something like that if I had the space. Enjoy!

  18. Firs of all--- big props on working out on new years eve! I took yesterday off from any workouts whatsoever. And second of all, WOW how did you put that thing together? I think I would have given up mid way through the "puzzle" and waited for my dad or any male figure. Lol. Sad. I know! Looks like your mom did an amazing job!! Cheers to a great 2013!

  19. My best friend got an elliptical yesterday too! I feel like maybe I should jump on this bandwagon because I'm with you... running or nothing which probably could use some more balance! Happy new year!

  20. I love putting stuff together, but I am weird. Sounds like you had quite a time with it though, but I think it will be worth it. I have a treadmill at home, but I wold rather have an elliptical. If I am going to put stress on my knees, I will just go outside. I use it a lot during baseball season though.

  21. I know I haven't even "met" her but I LOVE your new bestie already ;) and I wouldn't even mind sharing her ;P lol

Great job on starting the year off right!!!!! you are amazing. I haven't been running much outside either, but I did today and I'll definitely be doing more now that training is in full swing.

Also - I have a treadmill, bike and yoga and weights at home. I only workout at home and outside.

  22. Wow I have put together alot of furniture but never exercise equipment, that looks crazy! Glad you were doing it together!
I have actually started to really like the elliptical and it's my form of crosstraining. It really gets me breaking a sweat!

  24. Kudos to you and your mom for putting that bad boy together!! I'm not too handy when it comes to stuff like that so I can only imagine what my "finished product" would have looked like. Lol. But, what a steal! I love finding awesome deals like that. :)

  25. I really wish I had some cardio equipment at home. But my house can be measure in inches & half-inches haha so nothing like a treadmill or elliptical will fit. But we have some weights and I can run around ny neighborhood & I've got a decent scheule of going to the gym for the rowing machine & stairstepper. If I ever had room tho, there would be a treadmill! :-)

    Enjoy your new baby!

    1. I have the same space probably in my apartment. Too small, and it'd be too noisy! The elliptical is at my parents place - more reason for me to stay over! haha!

  26. Happy New Year! And love your new bestie! Those things are a nightmare to construct. We had one when we lived in the US and my husband is a carpenter and it took him ages. (And was never quite right, although he would kill me if he heard me say that!)

  27. Congrats on getting the elliptical put together. I would have wasted $100 to have the delivery service put it together! Happy New Year!

  28. that's awesome. I don't know what I'd do without my elliptical!

  29. Nice! I'm dying to get a treadmill someday!

  30. that is an awesome piece of equipment. I have one and plan to make more use of it this year. I jump on the spin bike more. And, I'm actually going to be adding a treadmill. We have a gym REALLY close by but it's not always fun having 3 girls to tag along. Enjoy the burn!

I would love a spin bike at home - it's a challenge, for sure!

  31. I had an elliptical but it was squeaky and cheap so I gave it away. I let someone borrow my exercise bike so I only have my treadmill now. Putting our new treadmill together was tricky! I am so OCD about doing it right since we use it all the time. I didn't want it falling apart!

Your elliptical looks really nice. Good job on putting it together!!

  32. Canadian Tire has the best sales!! I have a treadmill that I love, but I wouldn't mind an elliptical either!
