Unscheduled Training + Jack Reacher

Sunday: RESSSST

I gotta say, my legs felt preeetty good after yesterdays 10 miler. I definitely could have ran today, but decided Sunday is a day of rest!

In my mind, the runs I'm doing now is my own little marathon training.
My aim is to do one long run a week. I'll build up the double digit runs slowly.

I have looked at several marathon training schedules. For myself, I'm very loosely following them. I don't really do well with a set schedule for running. I much prefer to do long runs when I really feel it.

I'm still finding my feet and not settled into my regular pace yet, so I'm building that back up slowly as well.
Also, I'm really trying to LISTEN to my body. When my legs aren't feeling great..if I'm feeling some pain, I do not want to push it and hurt myself like I have in the past!

I had a pretty relaxing Sunday!
I took my hot-mess hair out and went to Starbucks in the afternoon:

I really love coffee shops. I love the atmosphere and it's kinda my place to sit and catch up on emails, a bit of work stuff, and of course, celebrity gossip on people.com

Afterwards, I went to Chapter's bookstore to wait for a friend and I took the opportunity to look at some books I'd seen talked about recently:

Mitch Albom wrote one of my fave books "Tuesdays with Morrie", so I'm interested in buying "Have a Little Faith"

Have you read any of these books??

My good friend (who I haven't seen in quite a while due to our schedules!!) and I decided to go see the Tom Cruise movie Jack Reacher.

Has anyone seen this? Opinions??

I liked it - I think. I mean, it wasn't bad..but I was very, VERY sensitive to a lot of the scenes and subject matter due to the Sandy Hook shooting. It just wasn't the time for me to see it. I'm really jumpy at movies any way, so it was probably not the best choice.. (shoulda seen some Les Mis!)

We literally sat and took 25 pictures..and this is the only half-decent one!

  1. I think it's so nice to not have a set schedule with exercising and just go at whatever pace you/ your body feels like. Definitely better than pushing yourself too hard! Also, what kind of computer is that, I love it!

  3. Yeah I've been trying to find a suitable marathon training plan for me also... kinda difficult!

  4. Don't you love taking a million pictures and not having a single one you like? I spent almost 20 minutes in the airport today trying to get a decent picture with two of my sisters before I finally just gave up. Somedays my face just does not have it. ;)

  5. Sounds like a great Sunday and good call on taking a rest! I'm sure your run on Monday will be that much better! I have been debating whether to see Jack Reacher but I think I'll wait till it comes on DVD now.

  6. It sounds like my perfect Sunday/rest day. All the things I love - cafes, movies and book stores (although I just look at the books i want to read and then go and get them out from the library... Oops).

  7. I haven't read any of those books. You will have to do a review and let us all know what you think of them. I want to see Les Miz! Looks so good! Jack Reacher, not so much. I am not a Tom Cruise fan anymore. Good job on the long run!!

  11. Great long run! I am loving your low pressure approach to marathon training, think I need to try it after the training disaster I had this past week!

  12. We have loads of coffee shops in Sydney and I love them!!! I really missed them when I lived in California. They have Starbucks but it is nice to have a wide choice of non- chain coffee shops.
Good job listening to your body. Increase your mileage on your long runs as you feel ready. And give yourself lots of rest time.

  13. i LOVE sitting in coffee shops, too! yesterday i went to coffee culture to relax mid-aft, read a book, people-watch...it was great!
i could go on a whole tangent about marathon training...suffice to say i totally agree with listening to your body -> that is under-rated in a lot of plans!
going to see jack reacher on wednesday - tom cruise-watching on my bday? yes!
very cute last photo with your friend!

  14. How perfectly blushed are your cheeks- you are absolutely gorge.

I LOVE working from Starbucks, I swear I work better.

I haven't read Jack Reacher but evidently fans of the book are upset bc Cruise is absolutely nothing like the character.

    Googling the Why book now:)

  15. i have never just sat at starbucks and done anything. i've always wanted to (for some weird reason lol), one day i will!
i'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, so i'm not sure i would like it
    What Alice Forgot looks interesting!!
i defiantly need to get back on track with listening to my body!!

  16. Happy to hear you are following what your body wants for training!

I heard that movie was good and would like to see it! I bet we will end up seeing it on DVD though ;)

I havent read a book in so many days.
I just wil have to rebuild the habit of reading.

  19. It's really cool how you don't have a set running schedule and are more in tune with your body. I usually need some sort of a schedule to keep me on track but I do switch some workouts around depending on how I feel that day :)

Never seen the movie :( I can't imagine being able to watch it in a theater though for the same reasons!

  20. I think it sounds smart to do long runs when you feel like it. I usually schedule them around my non-running schedule and I like having a plan. I guess I dont trust myself enough without one. I love coffee shops too! Have a great day!

  21. Awesome job on that 10miler!! I think it's great you are starting some training and listening to your body. I won't be seeing that movie, but Les Mis is def on the schedule to see!

  22. I totally love going to starbucks or coffee shops too. It just feels so cozy. Plus working on homework NOT in my pjs makes me feel like a grownup haha.

  23. I'd take your hot mess hair any day, I love it! And I'm a big fan of hanging out in coffee shops too (plus I don't have Internet at my house, so if I'm not at work, it's my only way to snatch some free wifi ;D )

  24. Have a little faith is fantastic. It really got to me (and I am not at all religious).

Marathon training - go girl! Remember we've all got your back :-)

  28. I haven't read those books, but really want to ready What Alice Forgot. I agree coffee shops are the best places to relax and catch up on work!

  29. I thought Jack Reacher was okay. It was kind of like an extended tv crime drama. Tom Cruise basically played the same "cool" character he usually does. I did not realize that Jack Reacher is a character in a bunch of books, so maybe they'll be another JR movie.

  30. Hey, friend up north, you are making me scroll a lot these days ;) I haven't seen the movie, but I hear the books are good (maybe something I get to this summer). I feel the same way about some scenes in movies these days, and I felt the same way after 9/11.

  31. I love your approach to training. It is so sensible to listen to your body and really what else is there to busting out a marathon other than putting kms under the feet and building them up sensibly! You rock! As for your rest day I think coffee shop and movies sounds pretty amazing!

  32. Thanks for your comment! I look forward to hearing about your training! WY to go on your 10 miler:)

  38. Sounds like a lovely Sunday :) I've never been one to follow training plans. It's nice to look at a few as a guideline but as long as you're getting the long runs in you'll be fine!

  42. Congrats on your 10-miler! I've only run one marathon; however, I must say that if you stick religiously to anything in your training plan, make sure it's the long runs (which it sounds like you're doing!). I'd also suggest plyometrics or interval training that involves strength. It really does help with lung capacity. Good luck, girl!

So how did Tiffany Tapley, creator of P3 clothing, do it in a very admirable position. I think once you get into the business, you realize what it really takes to produce these products from the beginning.
