I did whaaaat?

Thursday, Friday : Rest!

Thursday and Friday = Compleeete rest. It was great.

Saturday, I ran.

I wish I had the views that some of you guys have when running..but no..just buildings and city-stuff around me.

have you ever had comments made at you as you run by people??

I don't usually ever listen, but as I ran by this couple in the opposite direction of me, the man, in a pretty...rude(??)/off tone says to me "WHAT are you running from? God, relax"

I don't even know what that means. Ok.

Anyway, more running,

I want baseball season back!!

I ended up running 11 miles on Saturday - feeling great all the way through.

I have a self-made route where the first 5 miles are just brutal with lots of hills - the rest is flatter and makes me incredibly happy!
I have definitely found an improvement in my time/speed as I tackle these hills - they're not as scary as it used to be.

Now, stop the press - I ran all 11 miles WITH NO MUSIC!!! - By choice!!

How dependent are you on music when running?!

Very, very very!! I have NEVER run close to this long without music. I just decided to focus more on my surroundings and myself. It felt SO good.

I feel like I've hit a good stride with running 10-13 miles and still feeling pretty good during it. It might be time to push myself and run farther and get my own little PDR soon!

Sunday:

Today, I had to get my passport pictures done.
My own self-portrait beforehand:

Here's mine:

Why does it always have to look like prison photos??
It's like in school where the one day you want to look decent is the class photos - and I'm always a mess, half-open eyes and all.

Do you like your passport/drivers license picture??

I went for a shake-out 4 mile run afterwards. I am highly impressed (and surprised) at how quickly my legs recover. I don't feel any type of soreness or reminder that I ran 11 the day before!

Who's racing today?! I know some of you are doing a first-time marathon and I cannot wait to hear about it!!

  1. Hi either run with music or with a friend, so very dependent on some sort of entertainment - good on you for running without! That is one rude guy - he needs to get a life, seriously it annoys me when people (men) comment on women exercising - I recently had a huge truck blast its horn when I was cycling (in the cycling lane) - gave me such a fright!

    1. It is simply so rude and disrespectful some of things that can happen/be said while out there. ugh!

  2. I hate my passport photo. I'm 122 pound heavier in it. I don't listen to music at all when running. I listen to downloaded books on tape. I borrow them for free from the library:-)

  3. What the heck was up with that guy?! I can't even imagine running 11 miles without music, I would either die or boredom or drive myself crazy with my own thoughts ;)

  4. Ha ha ha. My passport pic this year was HORRENDOUS! I wish they would let us smile!

So happy to hear your longer runs are going so well! I've been running w/o music since I got a new phone, and I am still getting used to it :)

What was up with that guy saying that? People are so bizzaro!

  5. 11 miles boggles my mind. You're almost convincing me to start running.
    ...Almost.

  7. That's amazing that your legs recovered so quickly! Ooh don't get me started on people making comments about me running barefoot... I've had people ask me if I've lost my shoes. So annoying!

Haha! Nice passport photo!!! Trust me mine is worse... me and my mom were comparing ours when we got them done to see who looks more like a criminal.

My passport photo is so much worse! Seriously!

You look so much like a friend of mine. I don't know what your heritage is, but she is beautiful like you are.

  11. In Indiana (where I got my liscence) you can't even SMILE when the picture is done so it's just uglyyyy. But awesome run!! I tend to run on less busy streets to avoid the hordes of people and the rude comments. I LOVE runner high fives though.

But jelly about that recovery! I ran a 6.45 mile PDR (NOTHING compared to your run) on Friday and just took this whole weekend off for it.

CONGRATSSSSSSS on the PDR! Very nice!!

  12. My passport photo is awful and I get people yelling stuff at me when I run all the time. I want to start keeping a list of the things people say. It would be a funny compilation. As long as no one gets violent or physical, it's usually ok.

  13. I get so bothered by people that say/shout unnecessary things. And gross dudes in cars honking or saying "hey girl"
But on my run yesterday, I encountered 2 nice guys.
One just commented how cold it was to be running so good job for doing it.
And one stopped to distract a pit bull in the road so I could run past unattacked...very grateful for that one!!
    Great job on your run!

  15. What a GREAT pace!!
I do listen to music while I run... but I find a lot of times I'm not really listening to it at all. Does that make sense?
Hate my ID photos. Since they were taken I've lost almost 50 pounds. I guess they're a good reminder that I've made great choices and I don't want to go back!

    1. YES - it completely makes sense! I feel that way when I'm running, and it's a very hard route with hills etc..the music is on, but I'm not even listenin because I'm too busy struggling LOL!

  16. I HATE my passport picture, absolutely hate it! Yours is good though! And I'm jealous of your long run. I really need to sign up for a race to get myself back out there and running distance again :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's fantastic! Nicely done :) I can't really think of anyone making rude or off comments to me while running, but today some women started cheering our group on as we ran by. It was cute and it felt like a race! I'm a no music ever kind of runner. I used to listen to music all the time while running then one day in the middle of a race I started to find it distracting. I turned it off and never listened again. Weird. My drivers license pic is just awful. Zi think they do it on purpose ;)

  20. haha passport photos always make me laugh! I don't think I've ever had a good one taken- not smiling almost feels unnatural! As for that comment while running, talk about bizarre...I am pretty sure you're not the first person who ran for recreational purposes rather than necessity- so uncalled for from that couple!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I could never run without music for that long! Running isn't my go to activity but when I do, the music is a must.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great job on the long run...without music even! I listen to music when I run but not during races. I usually have a running partner so we keep each other company.

Rude comments are made by jealous people...just ignore them and run faster!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. LOL Thankfully sometimes people say nice things to you when you run by! I'll always remember my VERY FIRST run ever. I was massively obese and I thought I was going to die. I was trying to make it to a particular point on the Victoria waterfront (Clover Point) and I was fading fast. That's when a random stranger cheered me on, clapping, and yelling "You can do it!!!" And I did! :)

  24. I am a no music kind of runner. I think mostly because I get annoyed by the cords or just having things in my ears. Haha. I enjoy checking out the surroundings and people watching. Great job on 11 miles!

I actually like my drivers license photo, but not my passport. Never as good when you can't smile, I think.

  25. I notice your shirt is buttoned for the official photo... did they make you do that?! When I got my passport photo I asked if I had to be serious (aka look like a serial killer) and the guy laughed and said, "I don't care, do whatever you want." That's rural Vermont for you! Unfortunately, my passport photo still looks awful. I had had too much fun the night before and put no effort into making myself look presentable. And now I'm stuck with it for years to come...

Congrats on running without music! I've been running almost completely without music for safety purposes (a lot of the places I run these days don't have very many people milling about) and it was tough at first but now I don't really notice it. I don't know that I could stomach city running without it, though!

    1. LOL awww at ur passport experience!!
I just buttoned it thinking it'd look a little more presentable..all they ask is no smiling, etc.

I agree with safety purposes!! I'm in busy streets and daylight usually..but one time I ran around 5pm(not 5PM!! lol) and since it was starting to get dark early, I definitely ran without music for safety!

  27. haha, i am with you on thinking that passport photos look like prison photos - i look so serious in mine!!
well, you may not have the most scenic views in downtown TO but how many people can run around the CN tower, etc?!! great run for you!!! way to go!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I wouldn't worry about it because that guy will die of a heart attack in 20 years. Most people who gives runners a hard time are simply jealous.

  29. i have people whistle and always shouting "hey" "hey". like they think i'm going to just stop my run and come over and talk to them? lol
my driver's license is just too close for anyones good! i think they should go back and make all photos of people like they did in school, semi decent, where we look at least happy. congrats on the 11 miler!! i think your runs are scenic, way more than mine at least lol

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am entirely 100% dependent on music when I run...when a certain song comes on it can change my run entirely, i may have been considering stopping pretty soon and then I hear something upbeat and have to go a little further. Your passport photo is good, no worries! I've been thinking about getting mine done too. Oh and totally ignore the man who yelled at you while running, he's just hatin' haha

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've actually NEVER used music. I'm trying to teach myself how to now. Before I moved to Jersey, I ALWAYS had people to run with. Now, I don't have people to do most my runs with so I'm trying to teach myself to listen to music to keep me going. Congrats on the 11 miler!! Can't wait to get back out there!! PS I can't wait for baseball season too!!!

  34. Sounds like you had an awesome run sat. Hills are BRUTAL but they do make you improve so... They're worth it I suppose! I alternate between music and no music, depending on where I'm running. Treadmill runs however always require music!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love running hills! They are an awesome way to break up a run, plus they make you feel like a beast! :)
I just had my DL renewed and the picture is actually decent! Some states do not allow you to smile, but KS is a friendly state so you can ham it up! :) I'd actually show my DL photo to people now instead of always covering the photo with my thumb when I get carded!! :)

  36. sounds like a great run! i am so reliant on music while i run. when i did my first marathon i was in shock!

  37. I stopped running with music last year, and it has been really liberating. Glad your 11 miles went so well!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh my gosh I am so sorry, but your passport picture does sort of look like a prison photo!! HAHA. I usually hate my pictures for that stuff anyway!! GREAT JOB on the 11miler, and what a douche to the man. He was obviously jealous he can't run like you. I have been doing almost all of my runs for the past 6months or so without music!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Awesome work on the long run, and super impressive without music too! I def need music for that distance! I'm with you on the passport photos - When I travel I am always telling people 'I promise I'm not as grumpy as I look in the photo'. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am currently weaning myself off of music while running. I do find some music nice to get through the initial few miles (I always hit a soft wall before mile 5), but I have to say that running without music is really nice! I always return home with a sense of clarity.

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL so true about the passport photos! Pretty soon I think you'll be running ultras girl!

    ReplyDelete
  42. So many questions :-) Let's see if I remember them all. People commenting... nah. Not really, they usually whistle or honk their horn. Whatever, dude.

Music, not dependent anymore, not at all! I even ran my last marathon entirely without earphones. I find the experience liberating. I don't even remember when I ran with earbuds last time... maybe 2 months ago, I was feeling a bit low.

I absolutely hate my passport photo. Not only it was taken when I was weighing 50lb more, but I look like I'm going to kill someone and my haircut was horrible. I need to renew my passport in a month, hallelujah!

I wasn't racing per se last weekend, but did a virtual half-goofy, that was 10k on saturday and a half marathon on sunday for a friend who passed away from leukemia 2 years ago. I can't wait to start racing again, ATB 30k in 2 months!

  43. *waving hello, as a first-time visitor to your blog* :-)

A couple of years ago, I was running in a neighborhood and some lady started yelling at me from inside her house. She must have been sitting on her couch, next to an open window, feeling incredibly annoyed at me for running on the sidewalk...or something. Who knows? She yelled, "Watch out! You gonna run yo' ass OFF! You gonna run it off!" It was equally hilarious and strange, to hear.

And running that far without music....WOW! I am extremely dependent on my music. I think it's half of the reason I like running so much, as I get lost in the music and put myself in a music video on Mars or something. :P

  52. I've had people make comments while running it's rude but I try and use it as motivation because they are just jealous!! You look pretty in both pictures!! That's a really long without music! I could never do it! I'm very dependent on music even when lifting!!

  53. Your passport photo made me laugh because that's EXACTLY what I look like in mine. I think I have the mysterious/sexy look going on and really, I look like a tool.

And if I was allowed to trip every person that said something to me while I'm running, A LOT of people would be sprawled out on the pavement. I don't understand why they feel the need to say anything at all!
