Allergic to cross-training / Phone??

{Workout}

Friday, Gym: 2.5 miles (9:40m/m) + weights
_____________________________________

I went to the gym yesterday with the intention to cross-train.

But, my legs felt great so I decided to run. I'm very surprised to have everything snap right back to normal the day after my own little 1/2 marathon. The reason it was a very short run was because I started feeling some serious stomach issues..better safe than sorry.

My question is, do you make it a MUST that you cross-train a specific number of days a week??

The ONLY reason you'll see me not running is if I'm injured..or I really, really, really don't feel like it. Otherwise, I always absolutely run.

Basically, I dislike anything else..the elliptical/bike/stepper thingy..it's all a last resort.

Todaaay, I went to meet a friend at noon for a little coffee catch-up date!

Afterwards, I met my parents at Sears since we're looking for a new sofa set for our basement!

Reminder from Sears:

I love BUTTONS on my phone and I love my Blackberry.
I'm going to need a new one soon though. I'm not sure what the new BB's are..but I really, really want buttons on my phone!

I think the iphone is a GREAT phone (niceeee camera too), but I have never gotten used to the touch screen. I play with my dad's all the time, and it's just not happening for me!...

What phone do you use?? And, would you recommend it??

Oh, the yellow wristband I'm wearing is this...

because Sunday (tomorroooow!) is my Raptors Vs. LAKERS game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excited.

  1. I'm impressed your legs felt ready to run again after the previous day's 1/2!
I try to cross-train twice a week, mostly because I don't think my knees can handle more right now :(
I use a BB and my husband has an iPhone. I definitely like the iPhone better!

  2. That's great that your legs felt good after the long run. I have an HTC Incredible 2...it is no good! It is an ok phone but Frank has one as well and between the 2 of us we have had 5 different ones because of malfunctioning all in the last year.

  3. I just ride the bike at the end of my workout for about 10mins as a cooldown/crosstrain. If I do it every time I workout, then I don't have to spend a specific day crosstraining :)

  4. I have an iphone and I love it... then again I like touch screen phones :)

  5. That is great that your legs were feeling strong. I just started doing weights and I also really enjoy the rowing machine. Great workout, for sure. I try to cross train at least 3 times per week (2 yoga classes and gym at least once) but I do what I can. I need to get back in the habit of sticking to a schedule. I used to be so good about it when I first started running but I have slacked off waaaay too much.

  7. haha...yea, cross-training is boring compared to running for me too! but sometimes u need it; as for u, just make sure that ur overall weekly mileage doesn't go up too much. so only go up 10% each week, and if u've already clocked some serious miles it's usually best to force down the cross-training...just for the sake of avoiding injuries. but u can keep safely increasing and then after a few weeks u'll be whittling down the cross-training days. :)

  8. I love lifting, so that's my cross training. It's also eliminated the nagging running injuries I've had forever. I usually tack on about 15-20 minutes on the bike after lifting just to get a longer workout and I can tolerate other cardio equipment for that long. I only run three days a week and lift two, which seems to be the only way to prevent a running injury.

    1. That's a great plan - one of my new years goals was to lift twice a week!

  9. Love your hair down. You look so pretty!!! (looks great up too!)
I personally have an iphone and couldnt get used to the touch screen at first (I even returned my first iphone and the guy at verizon though I was crazy). Now I cant even picture myself without a touch screen. Very strange! haha! well, happy Saturday!

  10. My favorite cross training is my spin class, and I am obsessed. I sometimes (actually a lot of times) love it more than running!! I look forward to my spin days!! Great job on the run! I have an iPhone, but I was like you..I didn't like the idea of touch screen at all. After having this phone for almost two years I can't imagine not having it. I LOVE it and I would recommend it to you knowing I too LOVED buttons!

  11. I used to run 5 days a week, then injuries caught up with me and hence the cycling:) I love my iPhone 4S - just great for all my internet needs and a good camera too.

  14. To be honest, and I love my iPhone, but apple is falling behind the galaxy phones in a lot of ways. I am due for a new phone next Christmas, and I am seriously considering switching. I like the idea of a bigger screen, multiple apps open at the same time, and easier sharing between devices. Then again, I worship my iPad, I have a MacBook, and I have Apple TV, so I will prob stick with it.

Way to get right back into running! I usually need a day to rest after a run of 10+ miles, so you must heal quick!

    1. oooh I have a very tech savvy friend who said the exact same thing about galazy phones!

I *REALLY* want a Macbook btw..i'm secretly hoping my current computer breaks down so it gives me an excuse to get one!

  15. It took me awhile to get used to button-less phones. They make the buttons so small now on the phones that do have them though, so a screen it is for me!

I strength train and count that as cross training in my mind. H aha hah ahaha.

  18. I am looking for a new phone as well, as mine is the oldest Android System. Cnet.com has great reviews on Smartphones, and they say that the Samsung SIII is the best all around smarpthone. Iphones are great for media things, but the Samsung is much better. Also I heard great things about the Windows 8 new phone as well the Droid Razor Motorola. They are some phones that you can with the sliding keyboard.

  19. Hi! Following back! :) I try to strength train AND run. I don't do any other cardio in it's place though, it just doesn't feel like the same workout. Buttt I have an old school Galaxy phone. Like the free one you get when you sign up for a contract. I used to have an iPhone, but I never used the data so it didn't make sense to have it. And the thing kept breaking. Which was a major reason why I got the cheapo one. Those darn things last forever. I have an upgrade in May though, so I may be switching back, or hold it until I find a phone I can't live without.

  20. congrats on your half marathon!!! always feels like an accomplishment :) my brother's girlfriend would love that bracelet! i have a really old phone, i'm actually just waiting to upgrade it, but i'll be upgrading to the iphone. my fingers are small so it works well with tough screens and i don't kill my phones as fast with touch, that's always a plus :)

  21. I'm a little bit of an elliptical addict but I still know how you feel. Once I get in a really good running groove all I want to do is run every day. It's sort of the same with cross-training though. If I get in a good elliptical groove I just want to do that every day!

  22. I LOVE YOUR TOP! i've got a Samsung tocco lite which i think is one of there first touch screen phones. i also have a blackberry curve and i honestly love them both!!! I really couldn't choose!

  23. I'm currently running 4x a week, with 1-2 bike rides and 3x strength training. This is new for me, and I'm hoping it will help prevent injury. If I don't have time though, it's the cross-training that gets dropped - never the run!

  24. Ok, so I was a DIE HARD bb girl but then when the time came for a new phone, it was actually the cheapest option for my unusual family plan to go with the iPhone. I was reluctant at first, but honestly it is the greatest, most dependable phone on this planet. I would never use anything else.

  25. Right now I am 'cross training' more than I am running hahaha. A combination of training for a cross country ski marathon + IT band issues means I pretty much haven't run since November :(. I miss it though... need to start slowly easing back into it and seeing how the knee holds up... have some big running plans for this year!

During the non-snow months running is my main cardio, but I cross train with strength/circuit training, bike commuting, hiking, paddling, and sometimes cardio classes at the gym... don't really follow any sort of plan for any of those activities though, just like to play outside :)

  27. That's amazing that you felt good enought to run today. I usually take a rest day after a long run day!

I have a Kodoo phone (plain regular phone) and I know that I should really update it to something fancy. I'll see what my plans in terms of school and decide then ^^

  28. Gosh running a day after your half?! You are dedicated! I always tell you this but you are gorgeous :-)

  29. Cross training is a must for me. I need variety, so if I'm mainly doing indoor runs (which I am right now) I mix in spinning classes to get a good workout off the treadmill.

  30. I used to have a blackberry and I loved it! I thought I would never switch to a touch screen, but now I have a droid and the touchscreen is awesome, except my phone is a piece of crap, so I am moving on to the iphone in the future.

  31. I love cross training and it is a huge must for me. I used to be like you and though there are those that can solely run all the time, I'm NOT one of them. Not doing anything other than running all the time left me injured and not running :(

    I love your sweater!

  32. I have a RAZR DROID, it's really nice! I love the touch screen tho! Plus mine is water resistant so it makes it nice because I'm a total clutz! That's great your doing so well in your training!!!

  33. I know that feeling!

Since I'm trying to improve my speed now and stay injury free though, I have committed to strength training twice a week most weeks. (I didn't on race week though. LOL)

  34. I get at least 2-3 days of cross training and then other forms of cardio like stair master & bike. I know I will start to get too obsessive in an unhealthy way if I run all the time. I will myself that if I cross train today I will do a longer run on SAturday to keep my in check!!

  35. your workouts are so impressive!! keep it up girl, i'm taking notes!!

  36. I cross train because I'm ridiculously prone to overuse injuries. If I run everyday I end up injured quickly. We are all different and as long as you listen to your body I think you will be grand

  37. Way to go Sears for a great slogan!!

I enjoy cross training, so I usually do it once or twice a week. Usually I take a fitness class with my husband or friends

  38. I like to do strength training, so I do that a few times a week. Lately I have been doing some swimming or a plyometrics workout one or two days a week too. And one day of yoga. I guess I cross train a lot! Haha. But I only run a few days a week. For me, I just like too many sports I guess. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love to run, but don't mind my cross training days. I think because I do a lot of Zumba, and as we both know, that's just a dance party disguised as a work out. :P
