[Were you impressed with the rhyming of the title??]
The weather as I stepped out the door:
I realized that I *LOVE* running in cold weather. As long as it's not windy, I am very, very happy!
I went out sportin' the candy cane look.
The only intention I had today was to run a few miles since I took the day off yesterday.
I am not following a training schedule. Silly? Probably. All I know is, I'm not great with having set days where I must run specific miles. It usually never happens. Sooo, I run off how my body feels.
Today, things clicked!
I tackled 3 significant hills. On the way up - I did not LOOK up(that mentally destroys me). Just keep moving.
On the way down - I took ALL of your advice- short stride, lean forward, do not heel strike. Seriously, It felt SO GOOD. NO pain. At all.

Every mile (except mile 3 @ 10:06) was under 10m/miles.
Miles 8-12, I just zoned out. I haven't had that feeling for a long time. My feet were just carrying me through and everything just felt very smooooth.
I sprinted the last .5miles (this never, ever happens).
I am VERY happy with this run!
I feel SOOOOO incredibly humbled and grateful for my health.
The last time I did 13.1 without stopping and without it being a complete disaster was MAY 2012 (2:04:xx)
Hershey's cookies n creme - I'm coming for you to celebrate.

This girl recently dyed her hair a rockin' purple colour. I love it.
She looks ahh-mazing.
It's got me ITCHIN' for a change.
I'd love to go back to red for a little bit..but I'd probably lose my job in 0-30 seconds.
So, I'm seriously considering going a little lighter for a few months:
Or, be bold enough again one day, and get the chop.
Stay tuuuned, I NEEED a change!

Amazing run!! Don't you just love it when you have a run where everything clicks? Way to keep up a great pace too! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, to me, running in the cold is way better than running in the heat. I hate being too hot!
DeleteYEP! And to me, 25degrees in the summer and I am struggling baaad!
DeleteWow, that's amazing that you could just whip that out! My goal is to one day be able to just run that far without really planning on it. Are those special socks?
ReplyDeletethanks love!
DeleteThey're pro compression socks..I ordered 3 and it's Christmas again everytime the post comes with on. haha!

Awesome run girlfriend! So happy to hear it felt good! And that downhills were much improved. Get the chop, I loveeeee short hair and it looks great on you. Of course you also look gorgeous as you are :)
ReplyDeleteGreat run! It's so cold though, you better stay warm! :) I find it most difficult to run when it's cold, so you are my inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYay for a great run. Love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the 13.1!! So awesome that you can just head out the door without any planning and then run a half marathon.
ReplyDeleteAnd LOVE your short hair! My only problem with short hair is not being able to put it in a pony tail/messy bun on the days when I'm not ready to do my hair. But it is so cute on you!
Wow, that's some great running! Here in the UK it's cold but not that cold. I ran last night in the dark in about -4C temperatures, and that was enough for me! Well done!
ReplyDeleteYess! You found old pics! I love red AND short on you--and okay, if you need a change (although it still might not be office-approved), you could totally rock the half-shaved head look!
ReplyDeleteSo amazing. Can't wait to have a run like that! I am opposite though. Miss running in my warm weather:)
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo! Congratulations on a great run! I'm such a hair wimp. My "big change" usually involves a slightly lighter than natural shade! I think you look adorable with the really short crop!
ReplyDeleteWow you are incredible!!! That is some distance, enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing 13.1 run!!! I am so jealous (getting over the flu sucks) and am so glad that it all came together for you today! I live for those kinds of runs. Enjoy every step and am glad to hear you're figuring out the downhill thing. Congrats and keep it up!
ReplyDeleteYou are rockin' the runs! You go girl!
ReplyDeleteI am such a dork. All these times I thought your temps were in F. Duh, Kim!
I cannot wait to see your change!!!
Wow that's a good run!! I like all those hair styles!! I get where your coming from, I'm itching for a change and really miss my dark hair but to scared to do it!!
ReplyDeleteImpressive distance for an unplanned run. Way to go. Good luck on deciding your next hair style. It's always a fun and exciting choice to make.
ReplyDeleteSweet run!! Congrats on kicking it in towards the finish too.
ReplyDeleteI like lighter hair in the spring and summer then darker in the winter. Predictable? Yes. But I just like how it looks.
Great job on the run! Especially kicking it in towards the finish!
ReplyDeleteI like lighter hair in the spring and summer, and darker hair in the winter. Traditional? Yes. But I just like it on me ;)
Oops! I don't know how I just posted twice. Sorry ;)

ReplyDeleteLove the short hair on you. You are soooooo adorable:) Great run! I'm so jealous! You're fast!
ReplyDelete-14 that's awesome! I do love working out in cold weather. It tends to push me more and I love that you don't sweat as much. I'm not sure I can do negative degrees though! I'm talking 30s-40s. haha
ReplyDeleteAGREED about not sweating much. It's a relief for me!
DeleteOMG! -14? You Canadians peoples are HARRRRD-CORE!! Now where's my snuggy blanket?
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing time! Especially in the nasty weather today :) So proud of you :D Go celebrate with those Hershey's cookies and cream!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could run without a schedule but I'm always trying to work around lab hours/ school stuff. Some days there's just no time to fit in a long run :(
Ooh so excited to hear about your upcoming hair change ^^

ReplyDeleteThat run sounds amazing!! I can't imagine running in such cold weather!
ReplyDeleteAnd those hairstyles are wicked! I have a new hairdressar and she does a good job BUT plays it way too safe.
I have no hairstylist that I go to regularly anymore (she left), so it's always a liiiittle scary to trust someone new!
Deletedon't chop! change the colour, keep the length!
ReplyDeleteway to rock that run...and i fully am on your side with NOT following a plan and going by how you feel!
I enjoy cold weather running too. Once I get out there at least! What do you do for work that they would be upset with red hair? I like keeping my hair longer but mostly so I can put it in a ponytail when I run!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Pharmacist! My boss is quite a conservative guy that has hinted about these type of things before.
Deleteahhhh see, I wish I could go back and forth.I love long hair so much too!

ReplyDeleteYou are such a hair chameleon! Not fair! awesome run! I am jealous
ReplyDeletei secretly have always wanted to dye my hair some crazy color.
ReplyDeleteAh 13.1 miles! I ran a half marathon once last summer and I have yet the desire to do it again (maybe because it was basically a tough mudder up a ski mountain...) I woke up this morning and basically LEAPED out of bed as well! Your candy cane outfit is SO CUTE! If I ever run a half again, I want it to be the disney princess half and I will dress up as Belle :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to keep following your blog!
Congrats on the half! Totally inspired over here :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your run! I wish I could run that long. I actually like to see others that run without a training schedule. I do that. I feel less pressured and I tend to perform better that way. Your face shape makes it easy for you have different hairstyles that works great on you.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do with your hair!! Good for you for getting in 13.1, and yes I was impressed by your rhyming skills haha Enjoy your weekend!

ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of you for rocking that run! I really need to start adding more miles back again :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also looking for new spring looks. I'm feeling a little scruffy in winter sweatshirts, so I'm updating with new preppy shirts and accessories. Thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDelete:-) Marion
The crop is adorable!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! GREAT run!! That is so good that you felt good the whole time. So happy for you!
What an amazing run! I am blown away that you ran this outside in the freezing cold! You inspire me to get back outside and run even if it is cold outside!

ReplyDeleteWoohoo!! Great job on that run!! I'm not really one to give hair advice, since the last time I dyed my hair was well over 10 years ago!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I could never run in those temperatures! I'm from California, and I was whining about temperatures just above freezing for my run!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your race! I love it when the zone out happens. Especially during a race. So relaxing! And I vote for short hair. You look so cute with that.
